A total of 121 Filipinos were killed in politically-motivated attacks during this year's election period, the Philippine police had said.

The number includes those people killed from Jan. 14 to June 13this year. Among them, 11 were candidates and 49 were candidates' supporters, according to the final tally of the Philippine National Police (PNP) operations center released on Wednesday.

At least 20 policemen were also killed through the election period, the PNP report added.

The cases on the finally tally have been validated to be politically-motivated and poll-related, the police said.

A total of 176 people were also wounded, including seven candidates, 17 politicians and 62 supporters.

The PNP report said this year's election death toll was much lower than the previous election season in 2004, when 189 were killed.

The Philippines' mid-term polls for congress and local government officials began in May 2007.
