NBI files “PDAF complaint†before the Ombudsman
16 September 2013, Ombudsman Philippines
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is filing today before the Office of the Ombudsman its first formal complaint in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) case.
Upon filing of the complaint, the Office of the Ombudsman shall evaluate the complaint and accompanying case records to determine whether the complaint shall proceed to preliminary investigation or be subjected to further case build-up, in which latter case, the Inter-Agency Anti-Graft Coordinating Council (IAAGCC) Task Force may be engaged to assist the Office in its fact-finding or evidence-gathering.
The period of evaluation would depend on the complexity of the case.
Under its charter (RA 6770, Sec. 15), the Office of the Ombudsman has primary jurisdiction over cases cognizable by the Sandiganbayan, and has the authority to file corruption-related criminal charges, if warranted upon a finding of probable cause, against high-ranking officers.
