Mercury-free Philippines
« on: March 11, 2010, 04:27:05 PM »
Health Care Without Harm-Southeast Asia (HCWH-SEA), an international health care advocate, has appealed to the presidential candidates to be supportive of mercury-free Philippines and other green health care agenda.

HCWH-SEA made their appeal during a regional conference Wednesday on mercury phase-out and proper health care waste management in Davao City. The group is enjoining candidates to help create a situation where a greener health care will thrive.

Faye Ferrer, HCWH-SEA Program Officer for Mercury in Health Care, said they are also calling on the Department of Health (DOH) to report on the status of the mercury-phase out agenda which it presented almost a month ago.

“DOH has given the public their commitment to step-up mercury phase-out and other issues related to mercury in health care. It has been a month since,” Ferrer said.

Administrative Order 21 of the DOH mandates the gradual phase-out of mercury in all Philippine health care facilities and institutions by September 11, 2010.

Earlier in February, in a meeting between HCWH-SEA and DOH Secretary Esperanza Cabral, DOH presented a six-point agenda to a mercury-free Philippines.

Romans 10:9-10
"If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

this is a useless exercise. bisag unsaon nilag phase out sa mercury from all equipment in medical facilities and institutions, for as long as we continue to use fossil fuels, mercury will continue to be a permanent part of our lives. this is because mercury, alongside carbon dixiode, is emitted into the atmosphere as fossil fuel is burned. being a heavy metal, mercury will fall back down to earth and settle everywhere: in the soil, in the water. eventually, mercury gets absorbed into the food chain as it gets imbued into the system of plants and animals that humans eat.
