MANILA, Philippines -- An alleged assailant was killed while seven others, including a top aide of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, were hurt during an ambush in Quezon City Thursday night, police said.
The group of lawyer Rafaelito Garayblas, secretary of Mayor Lim, was waylaid around 7 p.m. along Araneta Ave., in Quezon City, said Superintendent Franklin Mabanag, chief of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation Division.
Garayblas’ son, who was with him during the attack, was in critical condition, a Manila City Hall source said. Five other companions of Garayblas were injured.
They were attacked by two men riding in tandem on a motorcycle with plate number 344 ND, Mabanag said.
One of the assailants, identified only as Abasola, died during a gunfight that ensued, he said.
Police were eyeing the possibility the attack was work-related, Mabanag added. ( Philippine Daily Inquirer )
