Doctors may lose licenses over surgery scandal

CEBU CITY -- A video posted on YouTube showing doctors laughing while removing an object from a patient's rectum may lead to charges against the surgeons and cost them their medical licenses, officials said Wednesday.

And even after the apology by Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) officials, the patient is still considering filing a civil suit for damages against the medical team.

You can never really live anyone else's life, not even your child's.

It's hard to wait for something you know might not happen, but it's harder to give up when you know it's everything you wanted.

Their age is their fallacy.

I don't want to defend them, however, one needs to know that young physicians are explorative in that aspect. They are aggressive, so to say, and unfortunately lang they had to do something like this.

What was meant to be a joke, backfired on them.

Reading about this sickens me. It is personally very embarrassing. I cannot understand why they would do something like this to jeopardize their schooling and their future.

I don't understand nor can I fathom their reasonings. Absolute and total violation of patient's rights.
This is Medical Legal Ethics 101, guys!

Why?

Yea. I was just talking about this to a classmate earlier.

I knew about this incident by Filipino News but I didn't know it went international. My friend Paul told me about it as I came back from lab lecture.

My reaction was keeping quiet. I was utterly embarrassed.

Second point,

Their actions not just harms Fiilpino Doctors, but Doctors in general.

A physician is a physician. Race, ethnicity, matters not. When one is trained in that field, passes the boards, and practices, they are regarded as Life-Givers. They have assaulted that sacred trust in the physician. The very chair of what a physician-surgeon is.

4 years of undergraduate education
4 years of medical college training
3-4 years of residency training
and possibly 3+ years of supra-specialty training

All down the drain.
All that sweat and blood of studying for exams,
All down the drain for a stupid act.
For what?
5-10 minutes of laughter and jokes?
At the expense of what?
EVERYTHING.

If so, then they too should be held accountable.

As far as I know, the physicians-surgeons apologized. However the patient wants a civil lawsuit.

Thats another topic tho.

Personally, the physicians responsible should be punished severely for this; as a lesson to everyone and a show of legitimacy of the Medical Board.

This should be punishment enough.

As for the patient, he should not be given one peso for damages. It was his own fault for stuffing a cork up his anus. Why he did that, I leave that to him and his own personal reasons I do not even want to know about. I personally think the patient just in it for monetary gain; he shouldn't be embarassed as he was the one who placed a foreign object in his anal canal. Disgusting, if you ask me.

The point of the matter is the actions of the Physicians. Either gay or straight ang patient, or for whatever reasons naa sila sa operating room. Treat them with respect lang. And DON'T film things.
