China Wants to Own Spratlys Islands
« on: February 19, 2009, 03:08:04 PM »
Senator Manuel Roxas II on Thursday dismissed the reported alleged protest of the Chinese government on the recently passed Archipelagic Baselines bill which treats disputed territories including parts of Spratlys Islands and Scarborough Shoal as a regime of islands under the Republic of the Philippines. "So what if they complain, we too should complain to them that their claim is affront to our sovereignty," Roxas said in a text message to GMANews.TV.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Chinese foreign ministry said the People's Republic of China has indisputable sovereignty over Spratlys Islands and its adjacent waters.

The Chinese government also said that "claims to territory sovereignty over Huangyan Island and the Nansha Islands by any other country are all illegal and invalid."

Roxas said the Philippines should defend its claims and its territory.

"Di ako papayag na mababawasan tayo ng kahit isang square meter. Gamitin natin ang UN, ang ICJ at iba pang [I will not allow that our territory will be reduced by even a square meter. We should use the United Nations, the International Court of Justice and other] fora to aggressively defend our claim," Roxas said.

For his part, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel said the China's "saber-rattling" does not help clarify the issues.

He said the countries claiming jurisdiction over the disputed islands should let UN settle the issue.

"We need not go to war over Spratlys. We only claim some islands that belong to us," Pimentel said in a separate text message. - GMANews.TV

There is nothing the Philippines can do to stop Chinese beyond the diplomatic aspect.

The combined Navy of the Philippines is equivalent to one of China's naval squadrons.

The Philippines is surviving in the alliance She has with the United States as the deterrent.

China had a naval clash with Vietnam several years back on regards to the Spratlys, where a dozen Vietnamese naval ships were sunk by the Chinese Navy.

The Only reason why China has yet to engage Philippine Naval forces in the region is simply based on the fact that The United States has a small base in Basilan and that due to the fact that Philippines is America's Pacific Ally.

Remove America from the picture, and there is nothing the Philippines can do, militarily to even challenge China's military strength.

China has a huge population of remote controlled idiots.

Silence its leaders through American intervention and there you have a sleeping giant.

I say we go to war if needed! It is a matter of determination and courage. Look at Israel against a superpower Russia. There are prophesies that Philippines will become the new Israel.

But the sad reality is, only below 50% of the Filipinos knew that there is a Spratly's islands. The general population will takle with finding food as thier priority on daily basis. While the few so called public servants, politicians and law makers will tackle with defending their position rather than defending their country & people as daily priority.
There is no death, there is the Force

There are things that meant more than what you say...they are things that you do...

Mr. Ferniz,

I feel for the Philippine Cause and right to Manifest Destiny, as well.
However, the condition of the Armed Forces of the Philippines must be improved in order for the country to have proper channels to defend its national territorial sovereignty.

The Philippines needs well-armed and compact air force that can protect the air, and it needs a fast-action surface naval fleet (including submarines).

There is no denying that the Filipino Fighting soldier ranks high in the list; however, he deserves modern military equipment as well.

The Philippines, is no small nation, by any means, with a population that is expected to hit the 100 Million mark in less than a decade. Imperative to the growth of the Republic, it must re-acquire Sabah to provide breathing space. And it needs the Spratlys for national interest in power supply. The spratleys are within the 300 mile Economic Exclusive Zone right of the Philippines.

Philippine-administered Kalayaan Island Group (part of the Spratleys) is the largest land mass in the region and is considered as a municipality. The Chinese-controlled shoals are within miles from Philippine territory. Which is actually an affront to the Territorial Sovereignty of the Republic of the Philippines.

In the days of Marcos, there were no Chinese disputes with the Philippines.

In the 1970s, the Philippine Air Force boasted squadrons of F-8 Phantom Tactical Fighters, and a hoarde of F-5II Tiger Air Supremacy Fighters.

Philippine Air Force used to catch and repel Soviet Air Bombers that were within the proximity of Republican Air Space.

We need a powerful Air Force.

My question to the Chinese government is:

What is your historical basis for Claim on the Spratly's?

Sure, there are some maps the Chinese may have had on the region some centuries before, but there were no Chinese colonization in the region.

China, "Zhong Guo" was a xenophobic society during the reign of the Yellow-robed Emperors. Even the Chinese Eunuch Administrator, Zhen He, made travels to the region, but the Emperor of Ming Dynasty ordered the Zheng Fleet burned and all interests of foreign lands outside of "Zhong Guo" (literally meaning, The Middle Kingdom, the Chinese name for 'China') to be ceased.

The notion of Chinese exterior sovereignty, per se in the Spratlys, in Aksai Chin, Kashmir region is a new phenomenon that developed as part of Mao Zedong's concept of A 'Great China'. A militant Communist manifesto.

The Philippines claim to Spratlys was far more realistic and concrete. The region was part of the Territory of Imperial Spain. All of the Spratlys, southern Formosa (southern Taiwan), all of the Celebes, All of Borneo and around were regarded as 'LAS FILIPINAS'

If only the Philippines had a stronger military.

One time, the Russians had war vs the Chinese. Of course, being a powerful country, Russia easily invaded China, and took 100,000 prisoners as POW. China didn't budge.
Again, Russia invaded again, and this time, took more POWs, 500,000. Still, the Chinese never gave up.
Third time, the Russians, intent of pushing the Chinese to surrender, invaded again. And to make it worse, took soldiers, women and children to prison. this time, they were 2,000,000.
Then the Chinese said to the Russians, "Are not going to surrender?" LOL..

The Chinese do not yet have the capability to forcefully push its claims. They have yet to retake Taiwan.

China has alot of 'goals' in its future.

they're a force to be reckoned with, though, not in a far distant future.

This is one of the reasons why the Philippines needs to maintain its alliance with the US.
