With the success of the country's first ever elevated U-turn on the southbound lane of C-5 near Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City in easing traffic and reducing accidents in the busy intersection, construction of a second elevated U-turn slot on the northbound lane has shifted to high gear.
The completion of the southern elevated U-turn, which cost P350 million and six months to build in August last year, had greatly improved traffic flow in the area with the elimination of the left turn slot from Kalayaan to C-5 and from C-5 to Kalayaan going to Pasig and Pateros.
Traffic managers from the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said that the completion of the second elevated U-turn, also known as C-5 Kalayaan Interchange Project Phase II, would eventually close the C-5 and Kalayaan intersection and would further improve the flow of traffic.
The construction had its snags, however, as, like in the case of the northbound elevated U-turn slot, the construction of the southbound slot had slowed the traffic movement at the Pasig flyover to a crawl. - PNA
