US group donates car to Jagna LGU
« on: October 24, 2007, 08:15:55 PM »
US-based Philos Health, through its chief executive officer, Forrest Malakoff recently turned over a P1.3-million brand new Isuzu DMAX to the local government unit here through Mayor Exuperio Lloren for the mobility of health workers who need to serve constituents in far-flung barangays.

Malakoff was here on October 14 to 17 for the third time this year for the turn-over ceremony which further strengthened the LGU's partnership with Philos Health, a non-government organization based in California, in fulfilling the mission of making basic health services accessible to the constituents in the upland barangays.

Upon learning of the multi-million peso mobile clinic program that Jagna-Philos Health Care Committee had conceptualized, during a consultation meeting, Malakoff decided to donate, instead, a mobile vehicle for the plan of organizing a Rural Health Unit 2 (RHU- 2) to be based at the barangay health center in Mayana.

In the RHU-2 concept, the upland barangays of Jagna will be clustered accordingly, to group barangays Cambugason, Boctol and Lonoy as one cluster, and barangays Odiong, Can-ipol and Tubod Monte as another cluster, then barangays Buyog, Balili and Cantuyoc as another one. Each of barangays Calabacita and Mayana shall stand as one cluster being densely populated.

Based on actual result and assessment after the implementation of the Barangay Development Plan through Participatory Rural Appraisal (BDP-PRA) in 2001 and through the households survey for the baseline data gathering for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2005, doctor's visibility due to unequal ratio and proportion, inaccessibility and high cost of health care services are consistently identified as priority health issues hence the program, in partnership with Philos Health.

At least US$8,000 had been set aside for the on-going rehabilitation of Mayana Health Center after Malakoff did a round of actual physical inspection to the site as well as to the other concerned barangay health centers before a new doctor is to be deployed to assume as rural health physician courtesy of the "Doctors to the Barrios Program (DTTB)" of the Department of Health.

In another development, Malakoff brought here a total of US$20,000 worth of medicines for the medical mission held on October 17 at the Jagna gymnasium and surgical instruments for the Cong. Teodoro B. Galagar District Hospital (TBGDH).

The medical mission was the third for this year after Malakoff and party conducted the same activity in February and in June for the upland barrios.

Executive Assistant for Administration Ma. Louella Tan-Jumawan and Jagna First Lady Nimfa Abaya-Lloren and selected LGU employees facilitated the whole-day activity.

At least 743 patients from the different barangays here and from neighboring towns benefited from the services of the medical mission team composed of Jagna MHO Dr. Arnold Cagulada, retired Jagna MHO Dr. Mariano Salas, private practitioner Dr. Troy Maape, Garcia-Hernandez MHO Dr. Eric Acenas, Candijay MHO Dr. Asendino Tan, Dr. Rosalyn Baja, Valencia, Dr. Zaldy Liao, Anda and another two MHOs.
