GEC, I dropped out from HNU on my second year. I was working for the BC while I was studying law. Wala pa ko kabayad sa akong tuition fee. I will be back, perhaps, by the time I am already financially stable.

Among silingan diri na Burma, mga tao dili ka surf sa Internet. The government blocks sites that contain articles about freedom, democracy, liberty, etc. No outside contact. I know this because I have colleagues (lecturers) who are Burmese.

There is no such thing as a Physician-Surgeon who does not know Law.

Aside from our extensive training in Medical School Proper (4 years): the first two years are set in understanding sold basic medical science and proficiency in Morals and Ethics Classes, and a class on integrative Medicine and Law, which teaches and elaborates what the power of the Physician is and how it applies to the population. As the Guardians of Society, the Physician is the shepherd of Health Care, the role of the Physician-Surgeon is increasing and his awareness on Laws that affect his patients, his powers, is quite extensive. The latter two (our 3rd and 4th years) are spent in the clinical setting in the understanding and implementation of: General Surgery, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and numerous specialty elective. And throughout this, our proficiency in law must be understood and expected. Following Medicine Proper, the Physician goes further Medical-Legal understanding throughout his Residency years (3-5 years), and then later on to proceed with Supra-Specialty Training.

Ours is the profession of 'never-ending studying, reading, discussing...'

Here in the United States, it is required that all Medical Students, Medical Interns have proficiency in the Law, as we are tested not only on medical science, but also on Legal prerogatives and its relation to Medicine.

Physicians are not only doctors of medicine, but some go on to become professors of medicine, teachers of health science, business owners, research scientists, as well as politics.

hehe, everyone in medicine is proceeding with an additional degree. I just think that Doctors / Medical Students have an innate sadist in them, and I speak as a Medical Intern. We love to torture ourselves with studies and extensive 'training'. I once was in a review with a Neuro-Surgeon from the Middle East, this man complained about how much time it took him to finish and that as soon as he finished the American Boards, he would like to practice as soon as possible (he used his kids and family as pretense to work as soon as possible,..again understandable). After the review course, he joked (and was being serious): "I would like to later specialize in Gastroenterology, as i always wanted to be one, not surgery...."

Note: gastroenterology supraspecialty fellowship is another 3-4 years (depending on location, but 4 years is average).

My Preceptor for Pathology, Dr. Barone, has his M.D, but also has his MBA, and a Master's in Communication.

There is no such thing as a "im just a doctor". Doctors now-a-days in the United States are very well-rounded professionals.

To be a better local gov't executive or  any position of authority
  a person does not necessarily be a doctor or a lawyer, any
  field of academic achievement will do as long as he/she meets  the criteria of a true leader.

A good leader has an exemplary character.
It is of utmost importance that a leader is trustworthy to lead others.
A leader needs to be trusted and be known to live their life with honestly and integrity.
A good leader “walks the talk” and in doing so earns the right to have responsibility for others.
True authority is born from respect for the good character
    and trustworthiness of the person who leads.

So very true, Cujo, and in this case this is called a legitimized 'LIE'.
I know a person who is in Law School , a really good friend of mine, who is going into Law for Prosecution with an interest in Family Law. She is quite exemplary, unlike some of her cohorts who will do anything, and i mean anything, to win a case.

In regards the original question, I believe that it shouldn't matter if he or she is a lawyer or a physician. But for me, I think one who can best govern would be one who has administrative skills (a nursing director, principal, teacher (educator),  doctor , public policy maker, manager, an attorney) can be one.

The secret to a successful political career is knowing what you believe in and sticking by the decision (to best represent the will of the constituency who elected you), good oratory skills, proficiency in administration and managing the bureaucratic red tape, working as a team, transparency in all that you do in regards to public office. And most of all, To remain calm under fire.
