Hmm, a parachute would be too human-like. Breaking his fall or teaching him how to fly in one or two easy steps (or flaps, maybe?) would constitute a more persuasive evidence of godhood.

then it would be too much to expect. some saints have "flown" (levitation or ecstatic flights) but those were more because of the spiritual heights they've achieved and not because they felt pushed to the edge.
