Lenfest Distinguished Faculty Award Winners Reflect on What Makes Great Teachers

Great teachers are always learning, from their peers, students, teaching assistants and families. Just ask the 10 winners of this year’s Distinguished Columbia Faculty Awards.
The 10 professors will be honored this month for outstanding scholarship, teaching and service. Some have been at Columbia for decades; others joined the faculty as recently as 2006.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. - John 3:16-18
