Every four years, the World Cup has us on the edge of our seats, as we watch our heroes (and soon to be villains) do battle on the biggest stage, bleed sweat and tears for their nations, and give their last dying breath to the cause.

And we also squirm as writers and commentators everywhere use every cliche under the sun ad infinitum.

But those players that are sent to represent us, well, they're not always the ones they should be, are they?

Sometimes the selections are funny for reasons totally unconnected to how right or wrong they are.
