If you would like to read just one book on the Philippines, read this one. Although written over a century ago, and many things have changed in those years, it is still a compelling read, and, unfortunately, surprisingly much of it can be recognized even today.

I have a hard book copy of this, written in the Spanish vernacular.

Given to me by Professor Munez, Professor of Spanish History.
It is probably one of the best books I've read, raw yet eloquent.
Rizal was a literary genius of his time. How I envy those who met him in life.
