Stanton - Father Felix Cubelo, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Stanton, Texas died Friday, June 8, 2007 in Stanton.

Fr. Cubelo was born in Candijay, Bohol, Philippines, January 28, 1948. Father Cubelo's seminary preparation was in the Philippines where he was ordained April 17, 1973. Following his ordination Father served in various parishes in the Philippines from 1973 to 2001. He arrived in San Angelo in July 2001.

After studying Spanish in Mexico for several months, he was assigned as Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart and St. Thomas Parishes in Big Spring in November 2001. During that time he also served as the Sacramental Minister at Our Lady of San Juan Parish in Midland. In July 2002, in addition to his Parochial Vicar assignment, Fr. Cubelo began ministry as a part-time chaplain at the Federal Correctional Institution in Big Spring. In August 2006 Fr. Cubelo was assigned as Pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Stanton and St. Isidore Mission in Lenorah. During that time he also continued his part-time chaplain ministry at the Federal Correctional Institution in Big Spring. Father's service in West Texas was made possible through the permission of Most Reverend Christian Noel, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Talibon, Philippines.

Fr. Cubelo is survived by his mother, Rosario Cubelo of the Philippines, his sister Josie Cubelo of California, and 6 brothers and two sisters who live in the Philippines. His father, Alfredo Cubelo, is deceased.

A Wake Service and Rosary will be held at St. Joseph Church in Stanton at 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 11. Deacon Clemente Villa will preside and Father James Plagens will deliver the Homily. Father's funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Stanton High School Auditorium at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 12. Bishop Michael Pfeifer, O.M.I. will be the celebrant and Father Floro Hinicay will deliver the homily. Fr. Cubelo will be returned to the Philippines for interment.

Fr. Felix Cubelo served in San Pascual, Ubay Bohol for a long time as parish priest...

Really I miss him so much and I know him well ..more than a priest. We lost our caring father ....God will give him endless happiness.. He was a parish priest in Danao, Bohol once.
