Thursday's trade treat: EU and Japan agree on ambitious free trade agreement

Japan is the EU's 2nd biggest trading partner in Asia and this agreement, announced in the margins of the recent G20 meeting, stands symbol for our economies doing away with potential protectionism. The EU-Japan Economic Agreement will  be the most important bilateral trade agreement ever concluded by the EU, including a specific commitment to the Paris climate change agreement
"This agreement has an enormous  economic importance, but it is also a way to bring us closer. We are demonstrating that the EU and Japan, democratic and open global partners, believe in free trade. That we believe in building bridges, not walls." Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmstöm  said
