International superstar Zhang Ziyi has become embroiled in a photo scandal, after paparazzi snapped partially-nude shots of her on a beach with her fiance, Israeli venture capitalist Viv Nevo.

According to Time.com, the images are already causing an uproar in Zhang's homeland, China. The sexual nature of the photos has angered many commentators, who are not happy to see one of China's most visible celebrities displaying behavior that is perceived as harmful to her country's moral image.

China's entertainment industry was previously rocked in 2008 by a photo scandal involving singer and actor Edison Chen. After hundreds of images of Chen engaging in sexual activities with various women, including other well-known celebrities, became available on the Internet, Chen was forced to retire from show business and move out of Hong Kong.

Zhang, already a popular actress in Chinese speaking countries, became a breakout star after the release of Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She has gone on to appear in several other internationally successful movies, including Rush Hour 2, Hero, and Memoirs of a Geisha. She is frequently included in various lists of international beauties, including FHM's "Top 100" and People's "50 Most Beautiful."
