Catholic Bishop Lambasts Miss Casino Filipino

Outspoken retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz has strongly criticized the first ever Miss Casino Filipino held recently for supposedly “exploiting” women.

Cruz, who is a staunch critic of gambling, said the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) put the women in bad light just to promote gambling in the country.

"This Miss Casino is a slap to Filipino decency. It is exploiting the girls… exploiting their ignorance and enthusiasm and this is to propagate the vice of gambling,” he said.

Cruz said popular beauty pageants such as Ms. Universe and Ms. World stand up for "something dignified, something humanitarian".

He said Pagcor held the beauty pageant to cover up “the evil it disseminates”.

“To me it’s a shame to a Miss Casino. I don’t know if there are parents or elders who will be proud to say that their daughter is Miss Casino,” said Cruz.

kusog kaayo ni manghilabot about gambling pero naa daghan pari nga sabungero o sugarol. I am not saying all priest kay sugarol what im saying this bishop should discipline his own people first.

Where do you draw your conclusions from? The last time I visited a Sabong (and I am not a priest), most of the people there were business folk, professional sabongeros, and foreigners. I saw a lot of lawyers, doctors, and drivers there, but no priest. When the bishop spoke in defiance against the proposed casino establishment and the use of the term "Miss Casino Filipino", he was warning the entire populace, to which priests, as well as all religious people (catholic, protestant, muslim etc) are part of. His was a voice of morality in a time where society (the world) is acting contrary to moral reason.

If one is against the message of His Eminence, one need not listen. Simple.

hehehe..nakapuntos si sumbuhan pero tinood na sa Bohol sa didto pa ko naay pare inila sa sabungan..pero dili nato isipon nga ang tanang pare ingon ana..mas daghan sa ila nga ligdong sa tarbaho..

The last time I visited a sabong (which was my first), wa man yamo pari og obispo didto. And if they do go, ma suko diay ka? As from my understanding, a sabong is a cultural experience for Filipinos. Priests, ministers, are all human and are subject to the same weaknesses as those whom they preach to. Bai, wala yamo tawo dinhi sa kalibotan nga walay sala, walay yamo nga perfekto. Usa ra perfekto...ang Ginoo.

Ang point nako, His Eminence's message was directed to the entire population (priests, and all religious life included).
