MANILA, Philippinesâ€"Actor Paquito Diaz, famous for his villain roles opposite the late Action King Fernando Poe Jr., passed away on Thursday night in his home in Daraga, Albay.

He was 79.

His widow, Josefa “Nena” Gutierrez Diaz, said he died two days after his discharge from the Estevez Memorial Hospital hospital in Legazpi City, where he had been confined since February 3 for pneumonia and shortness of breath.

“We’re going to miss him, said Nena, who said Diaz, contrary to his bad guy image in the movies, was a good husband and provider, and was generous to his friends.

"He was a good father to all of us,” son Joko Diaz, who is also an actor, told the INQUIRER. “He taught me to put family first and to make sure everyone [in the family] is happy.”

Joko said his father’s remains will be transferred from the the Nuestra Señora de Salvacion Memorial Chapel in Legazpi City to the Manila Memorial Park chapel in Parañaque for a three-day wake.

He was a good actor. Like they say, "somebody has to do the job." He did a good job as an villain-actor. 

A superb actor, and a real nice guy in real life. Frater, ave atque vale.

The report says Paquito Diaz had appeared in more than 2,000 movies. Tanan to puro kontra-bida. He must have had a very busy life. Rest in peace, Paquito Diaz.

I will always remember watching the old VIVA FILMS in which he starred in. He was the antagonist to Fernando Poe Jr's protagonist role.

Mr. Diaz will always live on.

His iconic mustache epitomizes the generation of Filipino men who lived in the 70's and 80's that styled the same stache.

He was the epitome of 'Kontrabida to the Max'

Diha toy usa ka sine nga he was cast in the starring role. If my memory serves me right, he played a labor leader and he was impliedly killed in the end. Wa mo-click ang sine and he went back to playing villain roles.

But perhaps my mind is playing its usual tricks on me again...
