Tubag Bohol is highly optimized for Search Engines but We Were Punished. Why?

Creating a website, putting content on it, and maintaining it is just a beginning of a laborious task ahead.

One may have the most beautiful website in the world but if it is not optimized for Google, who garners 65 % of world's search shares, then the website may fail to draw visitors.

I don't have funds to advertise Tubag Bohol and the only thing I can do is to optimize our website so that Google would love to crawl and index our pages everyday.

Myself a search engine optimizer, I have spent hundreds of hours to make Tubag Bohol highly favored by Google, employing manual techniques (better than automated) to make our website highly ranked.

Our efforts have paid off. Three days ago, Tubag Bohol became the most indexed website among all Bohol-related websites with nearly 11,000 pages available in Google search results. And to think our site is still a baby - 5 months old, naa pay gatas ang baba.

But this morning, Google removed more than a thousand pages of Tubag Bohol in its search index. I thought all those periods were sort of fun and style. I failed to monitor that one of us was deleting threads and comments replacing them with a single period. I should drink more coffee so I could keep a constant eye on our Tubag Bohol.

Google was penalizing Tubag Bohol. Why would Google keep a page of a website with a singe period on it? Simple logic. So Google was also deleting pages of Tubag Bohol. And we cannot afford this to go on. We need high volume of pages being indexed by Google. We want Boholanos to find us among millions of websites and meet us here and join us in sharing thoughts and feelings as we retrace our roots and heritage.

It was a painful decision, but it was the only option we have. I had to delete the account of a member and removed all the posts with a single period.

More than 1,200 posts were deleted, 300 of which came from the question: "Are All Politicians Prostitutes?"

So sorry about this, Mike.

I felt your pain and frustration with every word.

A digital sorrow, Thyl.

Yes, I remember.  :)

And that's why I know, although this has been a horrible experience, you'll be ok.

You've been through far worse, right?

Did you write a poem about this kite? Did it have a name?

But y'know, that's not what I remember being told.

I recall something else.

Perhaps the culprit has a poetic message that we didn't get. Put a period to a debate that's heating up beyond normal temperature and temperament. Too bad Google doesn't appreciate it either.

I've always had the hunch that a thread that starts with name-calling will end up in something personal.

I guess moderators should be given more authority to step in when exchanges in threads are getting out of hand. But first, we need a comprehensive set of rules.

You are right Benelynne,

I believed a new set of rules must be defined. Like the Law, ignorance of that rules excuses no one.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a page somewhere in "Guidelines" that it warns everybody not to use continous dots (.) or continous punctuation marks and the explanation therein is quite clear. However, nobody paid serious attention to it until the impact.

Moreover, I suggest a separate guidelines for moderators must also be defined. Correct me if I'm wrong but I have read somewhere that using sexually explicit words would prompt the search engines to activate "safe search" filter. Here in my place "Saudi Arabia", websites with such contents or which is beyond "moderate search" will be blocked by the government and this is what I am afraid of.

Since we are promoting democracy here and freedom of speach is one of its basics, I suggest that if one must use explicit words, please insert a space in between the letters or an underscore (_) to avoid blocking.

My only question, which resounds in my head, is why would that individual delete posts that clearly weren't his to begin with? What was his intent? His reasons for doing that?

I know that prior to destroying members' posts, he PMed me and posted on the forum that he was leaving Tubag Bohol. There in lie lies the question of ethos, ethics and morality. When does one individual's opinions and objections supersedes the rights and necessities of the whole group? As I said before in that thread entitled "Are Politicians Prostitutes", the innate humanistic trait of greed, need to dominate, is universal. And lo and behold, it was manifested by the very person who argued against it. Total hypocrisy.

In accordance to the thread and what was previously mentioned by Mr. Ben and Mr. Ferniz, rules need to be followed.

No, Ben. He deleted my own comments and other people's posts and those topics have nothing controversial or political whatsoever.

Deleting hundreds of posts is an act of digital barbarism.

I have been to many other forum sites but I haven't encountered a digital cruelty of such kind.

yup..we should have forum rules.

Forum guidelines are indicated in the Registration text.

Even if we don't have rules, at least we know something from school or from home the word "ethics." And that is enough.

Mike, talking about this is bad. I know that when I was talking with a friend of mine about this--my Waray-Waray blood came out...which rarely comes out (last time was when i played football, and i ended up hurting other players badly). Ang moral of the story here is: restraint. We need to restrain ourselves form doing STUPID things (and this is directed tot he person who is responsible for all this drama--and i KNOW you are reading this).

He's only lucky this didnt happen during pre-colonial times. Or else...

Though my kindness and trust were abused, I will always give the same trust and kindness to all who are here with us in Tubag Bohol.

Let us now forget the incident and let's move on, Bran.

Just looking at the sunny side of things, a forum that does not attract any fuss at all is languishing from lack of attention and page views.

This incident simply shows that TB has arrived. Someone simply wants to upstage the dramatic entrance. But with you around, Mike, this mishap is simply a prelude to grander things.

Yes, let's pick up the lessons and move on.
