Uganda police are investigating after a marijuana plantation was uncovered in the garden of a convent.
A regional police chief told the BBC that plants covering one acre had been found and uprooted in the southern Masaka district.
Two nuns and two porters have been questioned.
One of the nuns has been quoted by local media as saying the marijuana was used to treat farm animals, such as pigs.
Southern regional commander Emmanuel Muhuirwe told the BBC News website that only the porters had been arrested - not the nuns.
He said the nuns had been questioned because the garden was part of the convent.
But he said no-one had been charged yet and the porters have been released on bail.
Commander Muhuirwe also dismissed reports in Uganda's New Vision newspaper that the nuns had been angry that the police had entered the convent without permission, pointing out that the garden was separate from the convent building.

Summary: Human Studies on Medical Uses of Marijuana

There have been hundreds of studies on the medical uses of cannabis since its introduction to western medicine in the early nineteenth century. A review of the literature reveals over 65 human studies, most of them in the 1970s and early ‘80s.

    * The best established medical use of smoked marijuana is as an anti-nauseant for cancer chemotherapy. Marijuana's efficacy was demonstrated in studies by half a dozen states, involving hundreds of subjects. Most research has found smoked marijuana superior to oral THC (Marinol). Many oncologists are currently recommending marijuana to their patients.
    * Marijuana is widely used to treat nausea and appetite loss associated with AIDS, but the government has blocked research in this area. Studies have shown that marijuana helps improve appetite, and Marinol has been FDA approved for treatment of AIDS wasting syndrome. Nearly 10,000 PWAs were reported to be using marijuana through the San Francisco Cannabis Buyers' Club. However, the government has blocked efforts by Dr. Donald Abrams of the University of California at San Francisco to proceed with an FDA-approved study of marijuana and AIDS wasting syndrome, by refusing to grant him access to research marijuana. Research is badly needed on the relative merits of smoked and oral marijuana versus Marinol.
    * There is much evidence, largely anecdotal, that marijuana is useful as an anti-convulsant for spinal injuries, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and other diseases. Similar evidence suggests marijuana may be useful as an analgesic for chronic pain from cancer and migraine as well as for rheumatism and a variety of auto-immune diseases. There is a conspicuous lack of controlled studies in this area; further research is needed.
    * Cannabidiol, a constituent of natural marijuana not found in Marinol, appears to have distinctive therapeutic value as an anti-convulsant and hypnotic, and to counteract acute anxiety reactions caused by THC.
    * It has been established that marijuana reduces intra-ocular pressure, the primary object of glaucoma therapy. Due to its psychoactivity, however, marijuana has not gained widespread acceptance in this application.
    * Many patients report using marijuana as a substitute for more addictive and harmful psychoactive drugs, including prescription painkillers, opiates, and alcohol. Marijuana and Marinol have also been found useful as a treatment for depression and mood disorders in Alzheimer's and other patients. More research is needed.

Hehehe, imbes i outlawed ni diri sa 'states, they actually allow its use for patients with terminal diseases. Cancer patients are allowed to take medical marijuana; and there are some medical facilities (nursing agencies) that are given permission to grow marijuana.

Marijuana does not treat the disease, sister, on the other hand, its effects can mitigate the symptoms. They allow certain exceptions of the national prohibition of marijuana because they know that marijuana illicits a euphoric effect and can ease the pain of dying patients.

How effective these facilities contain and prevent tempering of the controlled substance is totally dependent on the facility's security systems and /or management awareness.

In other words. Who knows.

en actualidad, bai wind, smoking of substances (cigarette, cigar, marijuana etc) actually irritates the stomach; and long term smoking is associated with gastric carcinoma and ulcer growth. Not to mention that smoking leads to mutation of the delta-p-53 tumor suppressor gene. Which explains systemic tumoric growth for patients with history of long-term smoking.

I'm told that mga Mang Hilot used to use the oil from this forbidden plant for their massage.  Anyone else hear this?  I guess it makes sense, since it can be absorbed via skin contact and would certainly relax your patients / keep them happy.

I wouldn't be surprised. Its a euphoric drug.

 Medical marijuana already exists. It's called Marinol.

A pharmaceutical product, Marinol, is widely available through prescription.

It comes in the form of a pill and is also being studied by researchers for suitability via
other delivery methods, such as an inhaler or patch.

The active ingredient of Marinol is synthetic THC, which has been found to
relieve the nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy for cancer patients
  and to assist with loss of appetite with AIDS patients.

Ang akong Tatay marijuana user, pero pangtambal sa lawas labi na ug sakit sa tiyan ug  panuhot. Dili lang nato e abuse ang paggamit sa marijuana .Overusing  will result in overdose. Bisan ug unsang tambal kon e overdose ang paggamit, makadaot gyud sa lawas.
