The intensified operations of various police units in Western Visayas resulted in the apprehension of 90 persons with 51 now facing cases in court and 31 still being investigated.

Data from the Regional Election Monitoring Action Center of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) showed that the arrests resulted in the confiscation of 49 firearms, 20 bladed weapons, and two hand grenades.

PRO 6 director, C/Supt. Isagani R. Cuevas said that “the increase in the number of arrested persons and firearms confiscated is a manifestation of the intensified operations law enforcers in the implementation of the Comelec gun ban” as the election draws near.

“There will be no let-up in various police operations, like checkpoints and police visibility, to monitor and arrest the violators of the gun ban,” he stressed.

The highest number of violations still came from Negros Occidental with 27, followed by Capiz and Bacolod City with 15 violators each.

Meanwhile, Antique reported nine violators while provinces of Aklan and Iloilo each have eight apprehensions; Iloilo City with five, and Guimaras with three. (PNA)
