A Catholic priest active in human rights advocacy was shot dead by a group of armed men in a Northern Samar town Sunday morning.

The victim, Father Cecilio Lucero, was on board his Toyota van, when he was attacked in Barangay (Village) Layuhan, San Jose town, at around 8:30 a.m. by around 30 unidentified armed men, said Police Officer 3 Jay Campo of the operations office of the regional police headquarters in Palo, Leyte.

Lucero, 48, younger brother of former Northern Samar Representative Wilmar Lucero, was shot in the head and was killed instantly. He was the parish priest of Catubig town, also in Northern Samar.

His two companions, identified as PO2 Eugene Canaler and Isidro Miras, a civilian, were hit by bullets in different parts of the body and are being treated at a hospital in the province.

The priest's remains were brought to a Catarman hospital for an autopsy.

God has a plan for all of us.

Be sure of your salvation. The Bible said "Some things you have to do on time or not at all. Paul warned the people in Corinth: "As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. For he says, 'In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.' I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:1-2).

Life is what you make.
