Sacramento, California - He may have uttered the words some 7,000 miles away from this city, but there was outrage among fans here and all over the world when Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado was quoted as saying he won't make good his promised cemented road because Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista lost in his fight against Daniel Ponce De Leon here.

In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Aumentado said: "If Boom-Boom becomes a champion, I will fulfill my commitment that I will have the road passing through his barangay (village) in Can-uling cemented. Right now, it's a no go."

Aumentado had apparently promised to cement the road in Barangay Can-uling, Bautista's home village in the town of Candijay.

The governor's comment drew strong reactions from fans, based on the posts generated by the highly popular website Philboxing.com, which carried the Inquirer story.

"As the saying goes: 'A winner finds a hundred fathers, but a loser is an orphan.' Shame on you, Governor Aumentado!" said Ron Jeremy, who posted the story, in his follow-up comment.

"This Governor should be ashamed of what he just said. Instead of sharing sympathy with Boom Boom, he simply abandoned the poor kid. Double knock out for Boom Boom. Don't vote for him on the next election!!!! Shame on you Gov. Erico Aumentado!!!!," said another poster, Harold.

Original Sigbin, another poster, blurted out: "Idiot governor. He was just not invited in Sacramento. At least these idiots are coming out in the open. When the time comes when Boom Boom becomes a champion, he can cement this governor's face."

One poster, however, even went to the extent of exhorting President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to extend her hand, saying: "Maybe Tita Gloria may find it in the goodness of her heart to come right in and fund the project on the impetus of Boom Boom's effort alone, let alone the efforts of the winning boxers."

Reylan Lobertenos, who is from Bohol, posted: "Such statements manifest that Erico Aumentado is a big disgrace to the Boholanos."

In just a few hours after posting, the story immediately created six pages of reactions at the Pacland forum, which is a very fast rate for a topic.

Not all politicians, however, showed disgust over Bautista's defeat, as Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim showed class and even flew all the way here to lead a small contingent of Filipino fans who showed support to Bautista and the other boxers, who won for the Philippines the World Cup, 5-1, over Mexico.

Lim was later seen treating Bautista, the other boxers, and their management team to a dinner at nearby Denny's Restaurant hours after the fight.

Lim and the boxers are slated to arrive in Manila on Wednesday), while Golden Boy Oscar De la Hoya arrives next week to present the gold-and-diamond-encrusted World Cup to Arroyo.

anybody can say anything just to beef up the confidence of a boxer about land on a canvas.based on logic, we can condemn the action, but it is fair to spare the doer.cementing a road using public funds is public service.boom-boom wins or not, it will really come because it is due the people.cementing a road using private funds is a philanthropic act.losing in a boxing bout is not a sin.it's just a consequence.and it's never any boxer's choice to lose.in any competition, no contender dreams of losing.it is not as simple as writing your name on a paper, that you failed to have your name on a paper because you chose not write it.you can have it on the paper, anytime you feel like writing it on a paper.In a competition, there is always a mightier force that would win and there is a weaker one who does not choose to make the other win but simply failed to prove mightier.The mightier one cannot always be "us".

The  Governor has no right to say  that,if he knows whats right or wrong,  he was voted as a public servant and if he had promised that the road will be cemented its not from his own pocket the funds to be use for cementing the road. Why, if Boom-boom wins or not thats the governor's duty as father of Bohol. Why does the Boholano voted him. For  what? Di ba after the election usually you cannot find him in Bohol because he his hiding in Manila to evade some constituents who ask help from him imagine that? Sino ang nakakahiya si Boom  Boom or Si Aumentado?  Boom Boom did his very best as a boxer but there were times na hindi mo hawak ang panahon diba? But Aumentado hawak ang budget ng Bohol. We are proud of Boom Boom, not Aumentado.

freedom of speech is provided in the bill of rights.no one has the right to say anybody has or has not right of saying anything as long as it does not cross another person's freedom of speech.the first item is giving encouragement to a boxer. the second, is promising to have a road cemented.another thing is, there is no comparison as to who is of shame for the Boholanos who is not.Aumentado has also brought some honor for Boholanos.being in Manila does not automatically mean one is hiding from whatever.Again, the governor has the freedom to travel.that is provided in the constitution.the question is, did he bring home the bacon from his travel to Manila or somewhere else?yes!and that is reported every Friday through the Governor's Report.Moreover, being a governor is not comparable to being a boxer.to be fair, logic is is the keyword.

what we should look forward is that that road will really be cemented when the time comes depending on the paperworks, because that is part of the government's services.it's not for boom-boom alone. it's what is due the people of Can-uling and those who have to reach that place.
