The network said the award-winning journalist collapsed at work Friday. He was taken to Washington's Sibley Memorial Hospital, where he died, the hospital confirmed.

Colleague and former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw broke the news on the network Friday shortly after 3:40 p.m.

Russert had just returned from a family vacation in Italy with his wife, journalist Maureen Orth, and son, Luke, to celebrate his graduation from Boston College, Brokaw said.

"I think I can invoke personal privilege and say this news division will not be the same without his strong, clear voice," Brokaw said Friday.

"He will be missed as he was loved -- greatly."

I think it's also work related.  Imagine having to work 20 hours a day and maybe his brain was still working when he was asleep!  He died doing what he loved to do.

I remember back then, I used to work with a man who was so workaholic.  He didn't leave the office until about 2 a.m. and at 7 a.m. he was back to the office.  During weekends, he took his two kids to be with him in his office while he works.  Then he took a vacation.  He watched the Russian circus or circus something at the Limketkai with his two kids and wife.  He had a terrible headache during the show.  When they went home, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.  He had Brain aneurysm.  Two weeks later, he died.  He was in his early 40s.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I was so troubled yesterday when i heard the news because I'm a big fan of Tim Russert. I was so touched to hear that Mr. Russert was not only a man who was a family man, loving to his son Luke and his wife, but a man of great faith. Tim was a faithful and upstanding Roman Catholic, who always related to his faith, bearing friends who were nuns and priests. His Faith in God was with him in life, and he was blessed with such a beautiful life, a loving wife, a loving son and many friends.

He was a 'Manager-Player' so to say. A father-figure to many journalists in MSNBC and other stations. God Bless him. He is now at home.

I pray for the strength of his family in this time. Rest in peace, Tim.

Boyet, bitaw oi bata pa gyud tawn. And the fact that he's young, matabang pa unta ang iyang sakit that he'll be able to say goodbye. Saon taman kung ang Ginoo na ang magbuot, wala na gyud tay mahimo.

Honestly, I wish I will die that way, kay para dili na mo suffer pag-ayo akong lawas.

Bran, same here, we like him too. We were also stunned. We just never know who's going to passed away in just a matter of minutes.

Grace, kaning dunay enlargement of the heart ang number one nga maka cause of sudden death kay too much stress sa lawas and mind that the heart can no longer pump more blood to supply the rest of the body. Ilang gipa autopsy ang body and found out the enlargement of the heart was too much na gyud unya ming clog ang arteries because of too much Cholesterol also. Louy gyud noh.

Nang hilak ko when watching his memoriam sa MSNBC this afternoon. Because this man was such a family man--he was the joy to his father, and the hand of his son. He always made time for his son and his wife--no matter how busy his work schedule was.

Tim, you were such a beautiful person in life. And God Blessed you with such strong faith! Many people loose their faith when greatness has taken them--many begin to worship false gods, and false trophies. But NOT Tim. He was the first person in his family to ever go to college--to go to law school and to become the Vice President of MSNBC, as well as a correspondent for Meet the Press and a spokesperson for American Political Coverage.

He came from humble beginnings and was strong in his faith, in his church and in his family. When he was successful--he always kept to his faith, to his church and to his family. He did what he loved best--which was his job and exposing the truth.

God Blessed him with success--and took him home while he was doing his job. He truly lived a beautiful life.

The United States of America is mourning one of its proudest SONS.

Rest in peace, Tim. Be at peace, Sir.

During the sermon today at the church, our priest talk lengthily about Tim Russert.  Beautiful things has been said to her in all tv shows that talk about his death and I thought, well, he suddenly became a nice man because he is now dead.  Apparently I was wrong.  nice things were said about him because he was really a nice person.  Our priest said he was devout Catholic and he said more.  There has been a lot of people who died and our priest never talked as much as he did about Tim Russert today.
