The search is on for the 2007 Presidential Award for Child Friendly Municipality – and Inabanga intends to keep its crown.
A team has started evaluating the town’s child-friendliness atmosphere by surveying children themselves, families, communities, church groups and the government.
To qualify, a town must have placed children at the center of all development efforts.
The search is also in recognition of the role of the local government unit in promoting and protecting children's rights to survival, development, protection, and participation.
Specifically, it aims to give national recognition to municipalities, encourage local government to prioritize and address issues and concerns affecting the full realization of the rights of children, monitor and evaluate the implementation of programs and services for them.
The Provincial Child Friendly Evaluators headed by Pablo Tabaranza apprised the local government unit (LGU) Technical Working Group headed by Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy on the upcoming regional and national competitions.
"Let us continue our commitments to make our municipality a town for children to grow up in. With all our combined efforts we can prevent sickness and diseases in children, child abuse and neglect, maltreatment, drug abuse and juvenile delinquencies. Building our town as a Child Friendly Municipality is a call for us to take action and protect the rights of children,†he said. - Sunday Post Newspaper
