Published by the Bohol Sunday PostThe Inabanga Municipal Anti-Drug Awareness Council (MADAC) recently conducted drug awareness symposia in local high schools as part of its operation plan to lick the drug menace threatening the local youth.
Still a youth himself at 21 years old, Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy led the information, education and communication (IEC) campaign team that visited the Inabanga National High School (INHS), the San Jose High School (SJHS), the Saint Paul's Academy (SPA) and Southern Inabanga High School (SIHS).
Jumamoy, Vice-Mayor Wenceslao Lao, Chief of Police Melanio Artiaga, Fr. Felix Tabigue and Fr. Paul Pereno, Social Worker Lourdes Dela Torre and Municipal Health Officer (MHO) Judith Justol and the school principals took turns in reminding the students that drug addiction can ruin people's lives.
Jumamoy especially urged the students to stay away from drugs. Nothing good can be expected of adults if as youths, they have abused drugs.
He said they should stay healthy. After all, the youth are the hope of the motherland, he quoted Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero.
The speakers also expounded on the theme Healthy Citizen Equals Healthy Nation. They reminded the students that people who use drugs seek to make the world around them look and feel different.
The drugs often make them feel powerful, that's why taking drugs is called "getting high." Addiction occurs when a person compulsively attempts to continue that high by taking drugs over and over again.
