Ten weighing scales from as many vendors at the Inabanga Public Market last week landed at the storage room of the Municipal Treasurer's Office.
This after a "flying team" from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-Bohol) provincial office swooped down unannounced on the market bringing a set of weights to calibrate the weighing scales. Operation: Timbangan identifies defective weighing scales as well as those whose pointers are not set to zero, thereby shortchanging consumers.
To note, Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy observed that prices of daily needs, especially food, seemed to rise everyday. While he appreciates people going beyond the usual in order to survive, he abhors cheating and other illegal means of livelihood. As such, he welcomed the surprise visit of the DTI-Bohol team composed of Concordia Erano, Mercedes Matalines, Mary Lou Torreon and Rolando Ramirez.
The scales will be returned after the owners will pay the fine of P500. Defective weighing scales already beyond economic repair will be condemned.
