Who is Chan Chu?
« on: June 02, 2012, 01:36:20 PM »
Chan Chu (Chinese: 蟾蜍; pinyin: chánchú; Wade–Giles: ch'an-ch'u) means "toad" or "frog", especially the "Lucky Money Toad" (Chinese: 招财蟾蜍; pinyin: zhāocái chánchú; literally "wealth-beckoning toad") or "Three-legged Money Frog", a popular Chinese symbol for prosperity. It often depicts a bullfrog portrayed with red eyes and flared nostrils, sitting on a pile of traditional Chinese cash, with a coin in its mouth. According to Feng Shui lore, it is believed to drive away evil, protect wealth, and increase income.

Maghimo tag original Boholano myths:

Here's one:

Bag Hu, which in archaic pidgin Srivijayan means "bad weather", also known as Toy Bo (literally, "thorn-bone"), is a popular Boholano symbol for bad luck. It often depicts a bald-headed, thin but pot-bellied drunkard with a coconut shell bowl ("hungot") in one hand and a bamboo container ("sugong") in the other, sitting on a pile of firewood (usually coconut parts such as "palwa", "bukong", "butay" and "takong") which he gathers and exchanges for coconut wine ("tuba"). According to Bagtu Holbo lore, it is believed to attract evil, jeopardize wealth, and decrease income. It is usually sent anonymously to one's enemies.

money tree, pod, isles. i recommend growing a money tree.

actually, medyo matawag kog tuho-tuhoon.  my basis for believing the feng shui is as simple as my belief in acupuncture and why the pyramids of egypt are designed that way.  we find ways to align the energies around us.  once, i had terrible headaches that cannot be explained, until i realized that i slept with my head directly under a very big beam.  my constant headaches went away after i moved my bed.  the best way for calling the best of energies?  prayers.

as for chan chu, every time i look at this particular decoration (and maneki neko, the japanese battery-operated beckoning cat), i'm simply reminded to save.  the reminder is enough good energy.  so, yes, i mean it when i say i have more 10-peso coins now because i save 10-peso coins in my piggy banks (that's plural, hehe), piggy banks being a childhood habit that i never let go.

and yes, i want my money plant by the main door, below the wind chimes.  lording it over everything, at the topmost middle of the door, is a crucifix.

Isles,

I'm amazed that you are so fond of Eastern (Chinese) practices in Feng Shui ! Yes, I also subscribe to this, as I was taught by my mom on the aspects of negative and positive chi (energy). Arranging a place according to Feng Shui also deflects negative energy.

there are times when i can see energy, that's why.  yes, see as in literally seeing with my eyes.  as for the chinese practice of acupuncture, without it probably my back pains and scoliosis would have continued to torture me.  i was on rehab, but that took long.  with just 2 sessions of acupuncture, i was able to raise my arms again.  not all ailments can be treated by acupuncture though.  my trick: i go to medical doctors who also practice acupuncture.  i do like eastern medicine, especially the chinese one.  it's just that they have to keep off marlborough shoal. ;D

p.s. one of the last things i read thoroughly as a tb visitor before i decided to join was bugsay's posts on feng shui here.

I studied acapuncture in 1980 by a Japanese mentor - using both Chinese and Japanese needles - and a few tricks in Philippine herbal medicines. I was a good student and was a strong proponent when it was all I had. I also helped cured my mom's ailment (at that time) when doctors couldn't (honesly speaking). Cousins and friends were my clients... and they still talked about it even today.  ;)

Next project... I want to study how to climb a money tree (LoL)  :P
