Why The Rocks Are Red?

Almost all colors of the red rocks comes from metallic oxide, the red, yellow and the purple that you see in the sand stone is the result of varying concentrations of metallic oxides. Red is the product of iron oxide. Whole cliffs of sandstone can be stained bright red by less than one part per million of iron oxide.
