Step 6

Step 7

Practice an act of kindness everyday. It can be as little as offering your seat on the bus to as large as volunteering at an old age home or shelter.

Step 8

Practice gratitude. When we dwell on the things we're grateful for we become more positive people.

Step 9

Step 10

Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Your brain and body need to reboot every night. Getting enough shut eye will help your body fight stress and keep your immune system working on optimum.

TEN STEPS FOR A HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER LIFE

True health is a journey that you can choose to go on or not. If you want to join this lifestyle quest here are some steps to help you on your way:

Step 1

Learn to Cook. The more you eat healthy home made meals the better.

Step 2

Eat back to basic foods - if you can't pronounce something on a label you probably shouldn't be eating it.

Step 3

Aim for 5 servings of fruits and 5 servings of vegetables each day.

Step 4

Walk at least 30 minutes everyday. It can't be a saunter, you have to walk briskly. Can't get up to brisk? Start off slowly and work your way up to brisk. Check with your doctor before starting any new exercise regime.

Step 5

Practice some type of stress reduction. Meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, deep breathing or going for a walk all are great choices.

Step 6

Socialize. People who have active social lives are in fact happier than their peers who don't socialize. Find a happy medium between work, family life and socializing is key.

Step 7

Practice an act of kindness everyday. It can be as little as offering your seat on the bus to as large as volunteering at an old age home or shelter.

Step 8

Practice gratitude. When we dwell on the things we're grateful for we become more positive people.

Step 9

Eat a small piece of dark chocolate every day. Research suggests that it may help reduce your chances of developing heart disease. We need a tiny treat every day. Emphasis on tiny.

Step 10

Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Your brain and body need to reboot every night. Getting enough shut eye will help your body fight stress and keep your immune system working on optimum.

Di pud tingali apil ang socializing nato diri sa TB no? Kay ug masobraan, makalangan sa trabaho, makasakit sa mata ug tudlo.

Naa lang ko'y observation sa internet-age socializing nato. Last night, the Pinoy academic community in our city had a dinner with UP guests visiting Japan for a conference. Nakurat ko kay there was a big turnout of students, most of whom I did not know. On the spot, I was asked to speak a few words to adjourn the gathering. Since I was caught off guard, I just shared my surprise that I walked into dinner that night expecting a very familiar crowd. Since we communicate thru our e-group everyday, I was so sure I knew all the names, the personalities (kinsay kalog, kinsay seryoso, kinsay mahilig politika, etc.)

To my surprise, when I walked into the venue, I was straining to connect the faces with the names, kay dili man tanan naa'y avatar nga tinuod ang portrait. I said that these days, we could all move and live in the same physical area without interacting face to face, kay didto pa ta moatubang sa computer. This was so unlike our "socializing" many years ago nga real warm bodies held picnics, sportsfests, guys had academic discussion over beer, etc. Ang tendency before was that I could forget the names, but I immediately recognized the faces. Karon, mas familiar ang names ug usernames--and when you meet them in an actual setting or what we call EB, I strain to connect the faces with the names. Naa'y social disorientation. But there is no doubt that our internet social networks can be used to mobilize people with lesser communication cost. In fact,  we were able to kickstart a donation drive for the typhoon Ondoy with such a number.

While maintaining our cyber-circles, where we have a lot of friends who choose to remain incognito, I think it is still healthier to have a community of real people. Kita-kita bitaw tang tanan pohon.

Step 6
Socialize. People who have active social lives are in fact happier than their peers who don't socialize. Find a happy medium between work, family life and socializing is key.

I agree with you, Bay Ben. In cyber-circles we are tempted to assume the identities of the saints (or sinners) we have failed to become; in face-to-face contacts it would take a generous dose of deceit to succeed in concealing our workaday selves.

You're right, Bay Hubs, our cyber-persona is very likely a projection of what we sometimes want to be but have failed to become. So the mischievous and sinfully witty (or wittily sinful) HB I sometimes come across here could actually be a shy choirboy just trying to be a regular guy. I myself try to be whom you you read or see, but in real life, I am not so sociable and prefer to be in a small circle.

jan, a good/satisfied sex makes you tired, try to get plenty of fresh air, have a walk before showering and going  to bed, a glass of redwine will helps you! and if no chance...visit your house Physician about this problem. avoid taking sleeping pills. if i can`t get enough sleep, mangutaw ko and/or TB.

Try some simple, yoga-based exercises, Jan. I can assure you you'll be right as rain after a few days. :)

Here are some Tips that may help your sleeping problem, jan.

    * Sleep is as important as food and air. Quantity and quality are very important. Most adults need between 7.5 to 8.5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. If you press the snooze button on the alarm in the morning you are not getting enough sleep. This could be due to not enough time in bed, external disturbances, or a sleep disorder.
    * Keep regular hours. Try to go to bed at the same time and get up at the same time every day. Getting up at the same time is most important. Getting bright light, like the sun, when you get up will also help. Try to go to bed only when you are sleepy. Bright light in the morning at a regular time should help you feel sleepy at the same time every night.
    * Stay away from stimulants like caffeine. This will help you get deep sleep which is most refreshing. If you take any caffeine, take it in the morning. Avoid all stimulants in the evening, including chocolate, caffeinated sodas, and caffeinated teas. They will delay sleep and increase arousals during the night.
    * Use the bed for sleeping. Avoid watching TV or using laptop computers. Know that reading in bed can be a problem if the material is very stimulation and you read with a bright light. If it helps to read before sleep make sure you use a very small wattage bulb to read. A 15 watt bulb should be enough. Bright light from these activities may inhibit sleep.
    * Avoid bright light around the house before bed. Using dimmer switches in living rooms and bathrooms before bed can be helpful. (Dimmer switches can be set to maximum brightness for morning routines.)
    * Don't stress if you feel you are not getting enough sleep. It will just make matters worse. Know you will sleep eventually.
    * Avoid exercise near bedtime. No exercise at least 3 hours before bed.
    * Don't go to bed hungry. Have a light snack, avoid a heavy meal before bed.
    * Bedtime routines are helpful for good sleep. Keep routines on your normal schedule. A cup of herbal tea an hour before bed can begin a routine.
    * Avoid looking at the clock if you wake up in the middle of the night. It can cause anxiety. This is very difficult for most of us, so turn the clock away from your eyes so you would have to turn it to see the time. You may decide not to make the effort and go right back to sleep.
    * If you can't get to sleep for over 30 minutes, get out of bed and do something boring in dim light till you are sleepy.
    * Keep your bedroom at comfortable temperature. Not too warm and not too cold. Cooler is better than warmer.
    * If you have problems with noise in your environment you can use a white noise generator. A old fan will work or you can buy noise machies from many sources.
    * Know that the "night cap" has a price. Alcohol may help you to get to sleep but it will cause you to wake up throughout the night. You may not notice it. (It is worse if you have sleep apnea because the alcohol makes the apnea worse.) Sometimes people snore only if they have had some alcohol or may snore worse if they already snore.)
    * If you have a sleeping partner, ask them if they notice any snoring, leg movements and/or pauses in breathing . Take this information and try the sleep test. You may have a sleep disorder or you may just need to increase your awareness about your own sleep need. If you have any concerns see your doctor.
