ive seen both. its really what you or your date is comfortable with or likes. personally, i like bow ties, but the reason i think a lot of people wear ties is because they aren't the normal black or white, but a colorful, patterned tie. if you're going to do a bow tie, i would find a colorful one :) but im from the us so i dont know if its the same. hope i helped though! :)
