That Was Her Moment of Liberating Self-acceptance
« on: June 20, 2008, 08:32:30 AM »
By Vernon C. Grounds
The Daily Bread

An unmarried missionary had been disparaging herself. She was unhappy with her life in general, but she was especially displeased with what she felt was her low level of spiritual growth.

One morning she looked searchingly at herself in the mirror. Then, very slowly, she said, “God, I thank You that I am myself and can never be anybody else.”

That was her moment of liberating self-acceptance. She realized that by God’s design she was an absolutely unique person, a Christ-redeemed human being who could never be replaced or duplicated.

Do you condemn yourself because you aren’t as spiritual as you think you ought to be? Do you see yourself as a second-rate disciple, lacking the gifts and graces possessed by fellow believers who seem to be models of prayer, witness, and service? We can rise above the mood of self-rejection and enjoy grateful self-acceptance when we put our lives into the nail-pierced hands of Jesus. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, [and] the forgiveness of sins” (Eph. 1:7). We are accepted and chosen by Him (vv.4-6).

If the Lord has accepted us, surely we can accept ourselves! That’s the liberating truth.

Romans 10:9
"That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved."

I remember my former lady boss, upon learning that a handsome foreigner had fallen for me commented right in front of me in a friendly way that "eto talagang mga foreigners, mahilig sa pangit!"  Then the second time, here in America, an older lady told me my hair didn't look good and I was ugly or something like that.  Both times, I honestly could say that I wasn't hurt at all.  I had a standard answer already for stuff like that.  I said, I am comfortable already with my physical beauty or the lack of it because I know I am so beautiful inside and God loves me.   :)

Graze, that beauty you were refering to is only human defined or human invented. By divine standards, everyone of us is God's masterpiece. Every cell in our body is a Jewel.

Humans are crazy you know. There was a time in history where the Ancient Egyptians & Africans must shape thier heads into elongated shape to be considered beautiful or royal race. By complying this standard, a child must undergo a very painful procedure of putting forceps from birth up to age 12.

Now this trend of insanity is coming back like going under the knife.

Being alive, in itself, is a blessing from the Throne of Divine Mercy.

To have been made in His own image. Graced with the ability of free will, and purchased for us an eternal soul.

To have been loved so much that The Almighty Came down from His Seat of Power to die for us?

The weight of our sins warranted such sacrifice, so that our salvation would be secured.

For me, it is such a privilege to have been born a man. And the understanding to realize what we have and are given such blessings and graces.

Brothers and Sisters, always count your blessings.

Thanks for this, Admin. I really needed this.

Coming from a very conservative Catholic family, daghan mga family members and relatives nako are deeply religious and very pious. Sometimes, I couldn't help but compare myself to them. And I end up feeling guilty and ashamed, feeling like I am not a good enough Christian.

'te, you are not the only one. I stand with you on this my dear. But the most important thing is that we believe. And you are a good Christian. In the end, it is the Almighty that judges diba? Dili ang mga tawo. Who cares what they think, or what they say. It is not their decision.

^That's true, Dodong. In a way, I like my life here. It's much less stressful, and I'm away from the prying and judgmental eyes of my relatives.
