Hardening of the Heart
« on: June 05, 2008, 07:33:46 AM »
By  Julie Ackerman Link
Our Daily Bread

Pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars selling drugs that prevent hardening of the arteries, a condition that can lead to heart attacks, which kill thousands of people every year.

A more serious condition than hardening of the arteries, however, is hardening of the heart, and it cannot be prevented by any wonder drug. The prophet Zechariah warned the Israelites about it. They had hardened their hearts and refused to listen to the words of the Lord. Symptoms of this deadly condition were their refusal to execute true justice and their failure to show mercy and compassion (Zech. 7:9). As a result, the Lord became angry and stopped listening to them (v.13).

While it’s important to keep plaque from forming in our arteries, it’s even more important to keep our hearts from becoming callous to people who are important to God: widows, orphans, aliens, and the poor (v.10).

It’s crucial to follow our doctor’s orders to keep our arteries from hardening. But it’s even more crucial to obey God to keep our hearts from becoming hardened to the needs of others.

Ask God to bring to mind a person who needs the help of someone with a soft heart.

Thank you for this food for the soul, Mike.

Every Sundays at church, I always get to sit beside this tall, old woman named Carole.  Two weeks ago, she told me her husband was so sick.  Then last week, she told me her husband died already.  She told me she will just have a simple funeral because she didn't have money to feed people.  I don't have money either to give her but I can bake goodies to help her out.  After reading this message, I felt like a message was sent to me.  Yes, I will help her.  A little gesture of love will surely make her feel comforted.

Thank you, Mike. God rewarded me already when He extended my Mom's life when she had a critical surgery.

Reading this reminds me of what my mommy always tells me, 'te Ging. "Dili man jud mo tulug ang Ginoo, Ondoy Bran. Ang tanan gi buhat nato sa atong life. Kita-kita jud na siya. Tanan. Ang mga bati ug ang mga maayo."

God Bless you Ate Ging for your kindness to Ms. Carole. You know, you may not know it but just the fact that you were talking to her and reaching out to her and showing care for her sufferings and the cross that she bears, probably gives her motivation. And comfort.

It helps, jud 'te. Especially for those who are suffering and are in pain, the fact that others know what they are going through is already part of the healing process.

Christ Jesus works through us,'te. All of us. He gives us what we do for ourselves and through our own spirit and body. That he gave us.

This reiterates to me of the beauty of the Holy Spirit. The parcelate. Who lives in each and every one of us. And our bodies are His temple.

:)

Bless you, 'te. From the bottom of my heart. God Bless You. May all that you give to others be rewarded to you 10 fold.

Dong, I want to do something good especially to people like Carole who doesn't really know me except that we sit beside each other every Sunday at church.  At the end of the day, she wouldn't be saying "Thank you, Grace" rather, she would say, "Thank you, Lord".

As I said to Mike, Dong, God already rewarded me million times a long time ago.

May he continue to reward you unendingly. The Lord abides and delights on those of kind heart. :)

You make me smile, 'te. Thanks for being who you are. Don't ever change, because we love you because of who you are, jud.

Also please give my condolences to Ms. Carole. She is in my thoughts and prayers.

I think that's nice Grace. I'm sure this lady will be very happy.
I just hope she will not feel obligated to give back the favor to you in the future.
Just make sure you let know your good intentions.

We had the funeral service reception for Carole today at our church's chapel.  When I went there, there were 4 ladies, probably past 65 who were working for the meal.  I decided to stay because I thought I was just gonna drop off the food I made for the party.  I was really glad I did. I helped them prepare the food and the venue and later on wash the utensils and clean up the kitchen.  And most importantly, it lead me to know that our church has this Feed the Needy Program every Wednesday and that from 50 to 100 people go there to partake the meal.  I told the organizers I don't have money to donate but I will be helping from now in cooking and serving, whenever possible.

Beth, about Carole, I didn't make a fuss to her about my good intentions.  I don't think she would even remember my name except that she always reserve a seat for me beside her every Sunday at the mass - all these years.   She would probably remember today as one coming from the church and not personally from me.  I didn't even tell her what food I took there for them to eat.  She was happy and so are her family.  Her sister came to me and the other 4 ladies who were doing work in the kitchen that for a long time, that was the first time that their family was together.  They thanked us for making the event a wonderful one for them.

That's good Grace. I'm sure she appreciates all you do and whatever you will do in the future as soon as she will know. Word by mouth travels a lot faster than you think. Especially when they will find out you have delicious goodies to share, everyone will talk about it.
So keep it up Grace, your doing a good deed!
