My wife usually has to remind me to take out the garbage on trash pick-up days. Itâ€™s not one of my favorite jobs, but I muster up the determination to get it done and then just do it. Afterward itâ€™s a nice feeling to have it out of the house, and I forget about it till the following week.

Just as we need trucks to pick up the garbage that accumulates in our homes, we need to let Jesus remove the â€œtrashâ€ that inevitably accumulates in our hearts. When we forget to take out the trash, itâ€™s not a pretty picture. Jesus wants us to dump it regularly at the foot of the cross. In fact, He has promised to remove it and forget it.

But wait a minute! Could we be rummaging through the cans, trying to find that thing we werenâ€™t quite ready to part with? A sinful habit we donâ€™t want to give up, a fantasy we want to cling to, a revenge that we still want to ignite? Why are we wanting to hang on to the garbage?

Taking out the trash begins with confession, and then counting on Jesus to get rid of it. â€œIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousnessâ€ (1 John 1:9).

Its been a while since I confess, but I'd talked to the priest 2 weeks ago, some sort of confession napud.

But I always talk to God, and directly confessing to him my failures.

I was 23! Months after I got married. The priest discriminated me because, I got married in civil wed. It's still in my memory the words he said. "kahibawo ba ka nga dli ka pwede mo kumpisal og mokalawat? Barog, lakaw na!"

Akong feeling that time, murag nahugmaan! Wla naman gani ko katuod ni balik sa akong lingkuran. Mura ko og nawala sa kalibutan at that time nga gi ingon ato ko sa pari.

naa jud bitaw nakasinati ana, gie, labi nas mga pari nga medyo ultra-conservative. kasagaran ani nila mga tigulang na. product of the old school. pero, karon, i guarantee you, you'll find the huge difference labi nas mga bag-ong pari. i think, they have learned the lesson. i myself can attest to it, based on my own experience. i'm a sinner myself. a big one. i hope this helps.

Priests differ from individual to individual. Sometimes we have very understanding and compassionate Reverend Fathers, sometimes we have very conservative ones that still hold onto the truths of the 1st Vatican Council.

Question: "What does the Bible say about confession of sin to a priest?"

Answer: The concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. First, the New Testament does not teach that there are to be priests in the New Covenant. Instead, the New Testament teaches that all believers are priests. 1 Peter 2:5-9 describes believers as a â€œholy priesthoodâ€ and a â€œroyal priesthood.â€ Revelation 1:6 and 5:10 both describe believers as â€œa kingdom and priests.â€ In the Old Covenant, the faithful had to approach God through the priests. The priests were mediators between the people and God. The priests offered sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. That is no longer necessary. Because of Jesusâ€™ sacrifice, we can now approach Godâ€™s throne with boldness (Hebrews 4:16). The temple veil tearing in two at Jesusâ€™ death was symbolic of the dividing wall between God and humanity being destroyed. We can approach God directly, ourselves, without the use of a human mediator. Why? Because Jesus Christ is our great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-15; 10:21), and the only mediator between us and God (1 Timothy 2:5). The New Testament teaches that there are to be elders (1 Timothy 3), deacons (1 Timothy 3), bishops (Titus 1:6-9), and pastors (Ephesians 4:11) â€“ but not priests.

When it comes to confession of sin, believers are told in 1 John 1:9 to confess their sins to God. God is faithful and just to forgive our sins as we confess them to Him. James 5:16 speaks of confessing our trespasses â€œto one another,â€ but this is not the same as confessing sins to a priest as the Roman Catholic Church teaches. Priests / church leaders are nowhere mentioned in the context of James 5:16. Further, James 5:16 does not link forgiveness of sins with the confession of sins â€œto one another.â€

The Roman Catholic Church bases their practice of confession to a priest primarily on Catholic tradition. Catholic do point to John 20:23, â€œIf you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." From this verse, Catholics claim that God gave the apostles the authority to forgive sins, and that authority was passed on to the successors of the apostles, e.g. the bishops and priests of the Roman Catholic Church. There are several problems with this interpretation. (1) John 20:23 nowhere mentions confession of sin. (2) John 20:23 nowhere promises, or even hints, that the authority to forgive sins would be passed on to the successors of the apostles. Jesusâ€™ promise was specifically directed to the apostles. (3) The New Testament nowhere states that the apostles would even have successors to their apostolic authority. Similarly, Catholics point to Matthew 16:19 and 18:18 (binding and loosing) as evidence for the Catholic Churchâ€™s authority to forgive sins. The same three above points apply equally to these Scriptures.

Again, the concept of confession of sin to a priest is nowhere taught in Scripture. We are to confess our sins to God (1 John 1:9). As New Covenant believers, we do not need mediators between us and God. We can go to God directly because of Jesusâ€™ sacrifice for us. 1 Timothy 2:5, â€œFor there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.â€

kuyaw ang mga Pinoy pari, ultra conservative!Mangasaba pa nganong gihimo man na nimo? Kusgon raba makadungog ang lain, makaihi gud ko sa nerbiyos.
Ang mga German priests, you can trust them, they listen and give you advices. I feel very clumsy how to say in German, I just tell them and I know how horrifying are my sins, they could manage to smile & share some bible verses to strengthen my faith.

the best part i like in this sacrament, when they say the word that one has been 'forgiven'. knowing that in your faith, you're asking for it from God, it seems in hearing that word, heaven meets the earth. i could compare this experience when i heard the word "okey" from my parent after i told her/him 'I'm so sorry for breaking the thing'.

I was confirmed by my college chaplain, Fr. Mark Hoffman. He was like a father-figure to me in my college years because whenever I had a problem or just wanted to talk to someone, i would always go to his office or talk to him after mass.

I openly recounted my sins to him, face to face, when mass was over. For me, it was uneasy at first to suffer reconciliation face to face with a Priest, let alone one who I am very close to.

But I enjoyed it, because I knew that who better to ask for forgiveness than a priest who you love and know. In the name of God.

I second the statement from Tita Tess. The feeling after reconciliation is beyond words or description. It is something we all should experience and we are all invited to take part in the sacrament of Reconciliation.

I only confess my sin to God

Confession of sins is an integral part of the Christian faith and practice.
The meaning is essentially the same as the criminal one â€“ to admit one's
own guilt. Confession of one's sins, or at least of one's sinfulness, is seen
by most churches as a pre-requisite for becoming a Christian.

We all fall short of the glory of God.

Not one was able to even keep the commandments.
only Jesus our Lord could keep them.

We all need to Confess our sins to the Lord and turn away from our sins.

We should Only Confess our sins to God.

Only GOD can forgive you no man has any power

to forgive you of your sin

if you did a man wrong you may ask
him to forgive you but that is the only way

on our best day we all are still unrighteous in the eyes of God.

Oh God, please have Mercy upon a sinner like me forgive me of my known and
unknown sins. I believe Jesus Died for me and my sins and was resurected

but sin is not just personal, it is also social. my sins affect the other person, not just God. how would i show that i'm sorry and repentant to the people around me to whom my sinful action has also a negative effect? i have no problem dealing my sin with God 'cause i know He is going to forgive me anyway. But what about the rest of the community, the congregation to whom i belong? How can i assure them i'm truly sorry of my sins? how can I make myself be reconciled with them, even though they may not know i have sinned? i have a responsibility to them to make amends of my sins. because a sin, big or small, has a social dimension. proof of that, why do i get upset when someone kills an innocent bystander in our neighborhood when in fact, i don't know these people?

when i was a kid, my mom used to teach me to say i'm sorry to my dad when i said or did something stupid. i know my dad loves me and would surely forgive me, and even hug me. but you know, everytime when i did something wrong, i didn't go to dad directly to ask for pardon; i asked my mom to help me to approach dad and make sure she's there when i say my "sorry"? the sacrament of reconciliation is there to help us, assure us that the people of God is there ready and willing to embrace us, and forgive us through the service of Her lowly ministers. still, it's our freedom to take the road to meet God---and your bro and sis.

confession is not about sin alone. it' also about pride. it's what separates me from God and from others. i can tell my sins to God, but i don't think God would be happy to deal with me when He knows that i am only fulfilling HALF of my responsibility. "What you do to ME, you do it also to the least of your brothers and sisters."
