The Aquino government has agreed for humanitarian reasons to pay the mounting hospital bills of the 93-year-old mother of deposed President Ferdinand E. Marcos, officials said yesterday.
Dona Josefa Edralin -Marcos, apparently unaware that her son fled the country almost a month ago, has run up a bill of $55,679 at the Philippine Heart Center, hospital Director Esperanza Cabral said.
The woman has lived in a penthouse suite of the center, a pet project of former first lady Imelda R. Marcos, for most of the last seven years.
Cabral said Mrs. Marcos's suite is off limits to most hospital employees. The suite has a living room, dining room and all the luxurious amenities you can ever dream of.
