Still unidentified robbers broke into one of the newest stores in Tagbilaran last week, successfully carting off more than P400,000 worth of cash and merchandise from the store. The latest victim of burglary was Unitop Variety Store which is located along CPG Avenue this city. According to the police, the burglary of the store was discovered in the morning of March 30.

The store manager identified as Allan Yao discovered the break-in about 7:53 am Thursday. Initial investigation conducted by the Tagbilaran PNP showed that the suspects gained entrance into the store after successfully removing the bolt screws that sealed the roof of the store. Once they were inside, the suspects entered the office where the safety vault was located.

The suspects then destroyed the vault with a crowbar and scooped away more than P400,000 in cash inside it. The suspects also took with them about 50 Sony and Ericsson cellular phones. According to SPO1 Edgar Chan, Tagbilaran PNP crime investigator, the burglary appears to be the handiwork of professionals. Chan noted that the break-in was well-planned and efficiently implemented. At the same time however, the police investigator noted lapse in the store's security measures.
Unitop opened its doors to the Boholano clientele last December. It is one of the country's fastest growing superstore chains with about 17 branches nationwide.
