Bohol Sunday PostGood morning to all my friends again, did you have a good week, we all talk to much, what heartaches are caused, homes broken up, friends estranged, wars incited by some hasty, angry words.
Much of the conflict in the world is caused by a combination of a narrow mind and a wide mouth. You will seldom get in trouble by listening, and most of us can learn more from what others say than what we have to say.
Now, of course we should talk about our savior and tell others about his love.
Someone once said, if you talk when you are angry, you will male the best speech you will always regret. I have a confession to make, many of the troubles I've encountered in the past, I brought on myself because I opened my mouth at the wrong time.
Think back on your own life and consider how much heartache was caused because you were not swift to hear, slow to speak. Nothing is opened by mistake more often than the mouth. Think about it.
Lets pause for a moment:
There are some silent people
Whose praises should be sung
They preach a mighty sermon
By guarding well their tongue.
If you don't hold your tongue
You may have to eat your words.
Our topic - In my research this week, I came across these benefits for using papaya, many of you Filipinos might not believe that papaya, the fruit that is known to control libido, might also be an aphrodisiac. But it is used in Guatemala as such, this can be verified on internet - howstuffworks.com. It also states that papaya increases the female libido, and that the fruit has compounds that act as the female hormone estrogen.
It has also been used as a folk remedy in promoting menstruation and milk production after giving birth. Whether papaya is an aphrodisiac for men or women or not at all for both sexes, is just a trivial issue compared to the multitude of health benefits it gives.
The Philippine Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) says that the milky juice that comes out from the unripe papaya fruit when damaged is a good digestive aid. It stimulates the secretion of gastric juice, hence, it is used in case'' of stomach discomfort like dyspepsia.
Commonly used as a cooking ingredient, the unripe or green papaya also has a digestive enzyme called papain which tenderizes meat. Papain is also used as a digestive aid and is said to have anti-inflammatory benefits. FNRI also states that it can prevent diseases. It is reported that this front which is also used in confectionery and as an ingredient in juices, salads, pies, jam and jelly is rich in antioxidants such as folic acid, fiber, carotene's, vitamin C and E.
These antioxidants, promote the health of the cardiovascular system and provide protection against colon cancer. Papaya also contains vitamin A, a very powerful antioxidant like vitamins C and E, because of its concentration of pro-vitamin A carotenoid phytonutrients. It also adds, that these nutrients help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol adding that when cholesterol becomes oxidized, it sticks to and builds up in blood vessel walls and forms into dangerous plaques that can eventually cause heart attacks or strokes.
Folic Acid found in papaya is needed for the conversion of a substance called homocysteine, and amino acid. If unconverted, homocysteine can directly damage blood vessel walls and if levels get too high, it is considered a significant risk factor to heart and stroke attacks.
Check again internet - WHFOODS.ORG - they say one way in which dietary vitamin E and vitamin C may exert this effect is through their suggested association with a compound called paraoxonase, an enzyme that inhibits LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol oxidation.
FNRI also states that the papaya fruit, which is rich in fiber, prevents and eases constipation because the fiber binds cancer toxins in the colon and keeps them away from the healthy colon cells. It also prevents atherosclerosis and diabetes.
Again according to the "WHFOODS.ORG", a papaya weighing 304 grams has 187.87 mg of vitamin C or 313.1 percent of the daily value, hence it is rated as excellent.
For a food to be rated excellent, the website explained, its nutrient content must be equivalent or more than the 75 percent of the daily required value.
On the other hand, the folate and potassium content of papaya is rated very food. To have such a rating, the nutrient content has to be equivalent to or more than 50 percent of the required daily value. Papaya's fiber, vitamins A,E and K are rated very good. This means they are equivalent to or more than 25 percent of the required daily value.
The department of agriculture reported that papaya is a luscious reported that papaya is a luscious fruit that has been taken for granted, it also notes that the total crop area in the Philippines planted to papaya is only 8,720 hectares or only 0.1 percent of agricultural land. This seems so wrong considering its many health benefits. So come on farmers, plant some.
Take care see you next week.
