CHO tells public:
Be wary of food poisoning as summer season approachesILOILO CITY, March 2 (PNA) -- The City Health Office (CHO) here warned the public to be cautious of food poisoning this summer season, especially during barangay (village) and town fiestas.
CHO assistant chief Dr. Mae Delmo said there is a lot of fiesta celebrations during summer and it is important to ensure that the foods to be served are not contaminated with bacteria.
“Before covering the newly-cooked food, make sure to have it cool down first. Also, eat the food within four to six hours after it was cooked to ensure that it is not contaminated with bacteria,†said Delmo.
Among the foods that are prone to food poisoning are those with ingredients like tomato sauce, pineapple and banana.
“For those who are preparing the food to be served during fiestas, make sure that you are using clean water and clean ingredients, too to avoid contamination,†added Delmo.
She also said that common signs of food poisoning include diarrhea or loose bowel movement (LBM), vomiting, and abdominal pain.
“Food poisoning can be detected eight hours after eating the contaminated food,†Delmo added. “If early signs of food poisoning were shown, immediately bring the patient to the nearest health centers or at CHO.â€
So far, no case of food poisoning has been monitored by CHO from January to date this year. (PNA)
