Here is the letter made by Wolfpack; we need your names whoever wants to support it so we could have it printed at Bohol Chronicle...you dont need to post your comments, if you want to make your comments, post it at the Letter To Guindulman Part I.

All you have to do is modify this topic and write your name. Dont be afraid to write your name, lets show to Bohol that we who are not politicians can  also make a CHANGE!

A Letter to the Municipality of Guindulman

We, the concerned Boholanos residing in the Philippines and overseas, strongly condemn the senseless cutting of century-old acacia trees in the historic town of Guindulman, Bohol.  We strongly believe that such acts of the local officials are unforgivable.

The acacia trees are not only part of the life and culture of the people, those trees stood witness of the town’s struggles, trials and triumphs. Those trees also show-cased the cultural heritage of the municipality, therefore, the aesthetic values of those  trees cannot be at par or compromised with any development project Guindulman undertakes.

We believe that persons in authority should be held accountable for their actions. What they did is a total disregard of all environmental efforts in preserving the Mother Nature, not withstanding, the insult they inflicted to the entire generation of Guindulmanons, the Bohol population and the Philippines as a whole. It is a total gross negligence leading us to believe that the incumbent mayor and the members of Sangguniang Bayan apparently abuse their powers and authorities.

The Honorable Ma. Fe Piezas, the incumbent mayor’s defense for her irresponsible acts which is for the safety of the public is a total lie. The Pacific Consultant International  (PCI), consultants of the Bohol Circumferential Road Improvement Project (BCRIP-2) did not recommend the cutting of the trees when the national highway road was built in 2006. It was indeed illogical that the trees became a hazard three years after the Japanese environmental and structural experts deemed the trees safe and part of the scenic sights along the national highways. It is highly unacceptable that the main purpose for cutting the trees is to give a prominent view of the building claimed by the municipal administration as its major accomplishment or pet project. The damages are irreparable.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office who issued the special permit  is also equally liable with the local officials. No matter how sick and old those trees were, concerned officials must exhaust every possible means to save them. On this aspect, they failed us.

It is therefore, our moral obligation to see to it that the perpetrators of this ecological massacre in Guindulman will answer for what they did. The pitiful trees cannot cry or beg for mercy, but we the people can seek justice on their behalf. We should always remember that we did not inherit the environment, we borrow this from our children. More than anything else, on this particular situation, we shall see to it that justice will be served.

Moreso, we urge the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to conduct an investigation on this issue, not only in this Guinldulman case, but in all future applications to avoid repetition of committing the same grievous mistakes.

Respectfully,

So sad. What is DENR doing?! they allowed these people to cut trees? Those involved should be cut from their positions.

Hello Kaayuhan:

Okay man lang kung dli ka mosuporta. As for me bag-o lang ko sa forum, but I know about this a long time, and I was mad. For sure, you have to understand that I don't have any political link in Guindulman. I am from Cortes darling, and based in the US.

I support the global initiatives for preserving our environment, and it sad that in my own home field, there are people that destroy it.

It is just a matter of principles, what I believe and what you believe. And please don't tell us face value what that mayor did. Surely, she did something good but she also did something real bad.

Sorry, no offense, we are talking about the issue, being her a candidate for this election is just a consequence. Good luck to her...

Thank you for getting involved.

Part 1 of My Lamentation Over the Guindulman Tree Massacre:

Adyos, Mga Kahoy Sa Guindulman
as it appeared in Tumoy Sa Bangaw column
in the Bohol Standard

Hangtud kanus-a.

Part 2 Of My Lamentation:

sumpay sa akong column nga napatik sa The Bohol Standard Newspaper

Asa Ang Hustisya Sa Guindulman?

I´m glad that we have people here who are concerned and this is a good sign that other acacia trees that are still existing be protected.
Thank you very much to Bella for exerting much effort and to the Lady from Cortes who compose this letter. It took me some time to react for some very personal reasons. Salamat Mike.

please include my name;

Im vehemently against in cutting the century trees kay its also my advocacy to preserve and protect our environment.

PUTTING THE ARTICLE IN THE CIRCULATION HAS NO SENSE, IF NO EVIDENCE OR PROOF BEING ATTACHED (secure the permit copy) para makita kung kinsa ang utok sa pagpotol....

This is punishable by law in Germany.

It is a figure of speech indirectly explaining that the environment and all the natural complements must be preserved and protected for future generation..

That is a slogan used by environmentalists.

Count me in.

Godytess "Ging" Villafuerte-More
The Woodlands, TX

If you're not going to value trees from your good heart, at least consider their value at the economic level. They stabilize the ground, play a great role in the eco system, help with your heating and cooling cost (even in Bohol, you don't need all those electric fans with lots of trees around) and lastly, they can amp up your curb appeal.

There's a reason why The Woodlands, a suburb in Houston didn't suffer the swan dive that a most of the Housing Market in the US suffered. People here protect our trees and even our animals. It is a place where you can hang out in your backyard and see 9 different species of birds and a whole flock of hummingbirds in peak season by your lilac bushes. You don't believe me ? take a look www.thewoodlands.com

When I was a freshman in UP Diliman, I asked whey were there so many acacia trees around. They answered, because this tree is so resilient that it could withstand being surrounded by concrete and even survive acid rain.

Guindulman does not have acid rain, these trees may be surrounded  by concrete but even at these poor survival conditions, these trees could've given so much more.

Its not as petty as something political, its bigger than all this stupid nonsense combined. After your "precious candidate" Kaayuhan and probably you as well, has gone and died and has been absorbed back into the earth, these trees live on to give shade and home and maybe even food to creatures that will exist long after the memory of you will.

If the trees have already been cut down which is wrong, penalty should be planting of 100 trees for every fallen tree to correct it!

And we must see to it that it is done!
