The Capayas Dam in Ubay, Bohol is now home to 20,000 tilapia fingerlings.
This was in line with the instruction of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala who visited the province last January 25, 2011, to seed the major dams in the province with tilapia fingerlings.
The seeding was made at the Capayas Dam last Feb 11, Friday spearheaded by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-7 through the Bohol Fishery Office under Crescencio Pahamutang in coordination with the office of Regional Irrigation Manager Modesto Membreve.
Also attending the activity were local government officials of Ubay led by Mayor Eutiquio Bernales, farmer-irrigators beneficiaries and officials both from BFAR-7 and NIA-7.
“This tilapia seeding can compliment with the present thrust of the Agriculture Office under Sec. Alcala for sustainable Food Security Program,†NIA-7 director Membreve said.
Two other dams in the province will be seeded; Malinao dam in Pilar with 30,000 fingerlings and Bayongan dam in San Miguel with50,000 fingerlings. Such activities are closely coordinated with the NIA-7 Office and with the LGUs where the specific dams are located. - the bohol standard
