Press Release
WEDNESDAY’S YEAR-END PRE-EMPLOYMENT Orientation Seminar (PEOS) produced a total of 2,624 participants which filled the Bohol Cultural Center to more than its capacity.
The participants, who are beneficiaries of the Government Internship Program (GIP) currently working in the different local government units (LGUs) in the province including those deployed at the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), heeded the call of the Bohol Employment and Placement Office (BEPO) through its Head, Maria Vilma C. Yorong, who incidentally, welcomed all participants to the activity.
The year-end seminar specifically focused on the legal aspects of employment here and abroad and how illegal recruitment could be avoided in this day and age, which was thoroughly explained by Hadassah Liezel T. Pizaña, Labor and Employment Officer (LEO III) from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Providing first-hand information and precautionary measures on how to spot illegal recruiters early on was Officer-in-Charge of Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Regional Office, Glenda M. Aligonza.
Archie Lungay, who represented Acting Governor Rene Lopez Relampagos, delivered the latter’s inspirational message, also giving his own insights and experiences as a neophyte job seeker during his time.
Giving the participants an overview on how to apply for jobs on-line, Kim Brain Chua, the Managing Director of Jobs180.com himself, guided the students through each step so their names and resumes could be uploaded and included in the roster of applicants so that prospective employers could easily find their choices for their companies’ respective job vacancies.
He also cited very relevant examples of productive job interviews, which he assured everyone, would give an applicant THE edge over his/her competitors for the position applied for, by giving the desired “boom!” or impact to make interviewers “remember and bat for” the applicant.
The activity’s highlight was the giving of certificates to participants, which gave each of them a sense of belonging and accomplishment in being able to complete the whole PEOS activity despite its very early morning start and the long lines during registration.
Vilma Yorong reiterated that “at BEPO, we always make it a point to conduct trainings and seminars that could help boost our labor force and open our people’s eyes to the realities of life and what to do about it; and more importantly, make them realize that the Provincial Government, through BEPO, is making everything possible to help alleviate poverty and address unemployment and underemployment in Bohol.
