PhilHealth Coverage in Bohol Intensified

Bohol Standard

Mayors and barangay leaders support the provincial thrust widening the coverage of Philhealth and implementing it to the maximum in Bohol.

Capitol has intensified its campaign for more Boholanos, notably the poorest of the poor, to avail of the subsidized, socialized health care insurance.

The administration of Gov. Edgar Chatto and Vice Gov. Concep[cion Lim has raised the province’s allocation for Boholanos’ Philhealth premiums.

In Calape, Mayor Junnie Yu responded to the earnest desire of the province by announcing on Thursday his creation of a special office to complement the Chatto’s Philhealth effort for the town constituents.

The mayor welcomed the capitol focal team dispatched to his place on the same day to further explain the different scopes of the Philhealth programs either totally sponsored by the province or counterparted by it with the national government and LGUs.

The team is composed of Reynaldo Gacayan who has been designated by the governor as Philhealth provincial coordinator, Eufronia Curambao of the Provincial Budget Office who is capitol’s focal person on Philhealth, and their counterpart in the provincial office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Nonita Gica.

A Philhealth-Tagbilaran team of Golda Javier and Anavic Pueblos accompanied the capitol group, who was also joined by Provincial Executive Assistant for External Affairs Isabelito Tongco.

The group interacted with the barangay captains on varied issues and concerns affecting Philhealth in the meeting of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) on the same day.

They distributed Philehatlh IDs, membership data records (MDRs) and masterlist.

From Calape, they proceeded to Loboc on the same intent.

The regional office of Philhealth supported the intensive information, education and communication (IEC) campaign of the province in collaboration with the municipal LGUs and barangay officials.

There are five province-sponsored Philhealth programs, namely, the regular, prosperity, Carmen Health District, universal coverage and special (for barangay officials) programs, tha latter to include SK chairmen starting next year.

While making the people aware of what the province has offered to them, the strategy helps the beneficiaries learn more and understand the existing and new national Philhealth policies.

Chatto admitted that there are certain national policies that “do not sit well” with the implementation of the Philhealth programs sponsored by the provincial government.

This condition has in fact been observed, too, by other governors, resulting in a unified position of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) so that the noblest intent of the pro-poor health care insurance program may not be sacrificed.
