Expropriation of lots located in two barangays of Panglao will start next month for the international airport development project.

Provincial legal officer Atty. Handel Lagunay bared in an interview with the Chronicle yesterday that the provincial government will have to expropriate about 9-percent of the required land area for the Panglao airport.

This as negotiations with its owners have failed as most of them are either not willing to sell or are absentee owners.

To be excluded from the expropriation are those lots whose owners are willing to sell and those who have expressed desire to barter their lots of a government owned properties in Panglao.
          

Lagunay assured that the total to be subjected for expropriation is just a small portion of the land area to be utilized for the airport. These are located in barangays Tawala and Bolod.

Some of these lots even have the same declared owner, Lagunay said.

As of August 31, the provincial government already acquired 88.2 hectares of the 195 hectares that has to be acquired. Some are already paid while some documents of these lots are still being processed, Lagunay disclosed.

About P100-million was released from the total P147-million needed for the lot acquisition, according to Lagunay.

The airport project requires at least 215 hectares for the runway, administration building and facilities.

Lagunay said Bohol is assured the project will be finished and operational by April 2010, before the term of Pres. Arroyo will end.
