The Department of Science and Technology Bohol Provincial S&T Office conducted a retraining on the operations and maintenance of RxBox Telehealth Device to the twenty-five (25) Rural Health Unit (RHU) beneficiaries in the province of Bohol attended by sixteen (16) medical doctors, thirty-two (32) nurses, twenty-five (25) midwives, and twenty-one (21) IT personnel last February 3, 2023. The twenty-five (25) RHU  comprised of Antequera, Balilihan, Batuan, Bien Unido, Bilar, Buenavista, Carmen, Catigbian, Dauis, Dimiao, Garcia-Hernandez, Getafe, Guindulman, Inabanga, Lila, Maribojoc, Pres CPG, Sagbayan, San Isidro, San Miguel, Sevilla, Talibon, Trinidad, Ubay and Valencia.

A collaborative effort between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the University of the Philippines Manila – National Telehealth Center (UP-NTHC), the University of the Philippines Diliman – College of Engineering, and the Department of Health (DOH), RxBox was designed to provide access to life-saving health care services in isolated and disadvantaged communities nationwide. A telemedicine device capable of capturing medical signals through built-in medical sensors, including a BP monitor, Pulse Oximeter, Temperature Sensor, Electronic Fetal Monitoring Sensor, and ECG sensor. The device also stores data in an electronic medical record and transmits health information via the internet to a clinical specialist for expert advice that catalyzes improvement in the local referral system by facilitating teleconsultations (audio-video conferences) within the National Telehealth Service Program.

The retraining aims to refresh doctors and healthcare workers on the operations and maintenance of the RxBox device, which is timely as some doctors and healthcare workers who were previously trained have retired or are no longer connected with the RHU beneficiaries. The presence of RxBox in an RHU will help reduce the overall cost of healthcare for an individual by enabling health workers to diagnose, monitor and treat patients within the rural health facility. #DOST #ScienceForThePeople #OneDOST4U
