Dauisanons pin their hope for economic marvel on the firm effort of Gov. Edgar Chatto to materialize the long-fancied new Bohol airport project in neighbouring Panglao town.

They are bullish to capture immediate domino effect of the development that a modern airport of international standard can bring about considering alone the proximity of their place to the flight terminal in the nearby municipality.

Municipal officials led by Mayor Jaime Jimenez acknowledged Chatto’s already numerous contributions to their constituents’ welfare that they had him gracing on Wednesday, August 8, their first ever celebration of Foundation Day since Dauis became a town 292 years ago.

Grateful, they recalled that Chatto, while he was congressman, already included Dauis in the physical preparation for the now imminent fulfilment of the vision of a “world” airport in the yard of the Boholanos.

The then First District solon succeeded in totally improving and widening the road and the bridge from the junction of Tagbilaran City to Poblacion, Dauis and the causeway, along which is also a bridge, in Sitio Ubos, Poblacion 1 in the city to Totolan, Dauis.

Chatto had all these done while Jimenez was yet the vice mayor of then Mayor Luciano Bongalos.

Also in anticipation of the airport, Chatto had then authored in Congress the law nationalizing the circumferential road of Panglao island, which is comprised by the municipalities of Dauis and Panglao.

Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III is determined to build and finish the new Bohol airport, an ambitious project that has been grounded in dream for over 20 years now until the latest sign of its ultimate flight to reality.

The new Bohol airport on Panglao island shall rise before the end of his term in 2016, the president clearly declared in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 23 this year.

His assurance was greeted with deafening applause inside the Congress where the governor himself and First District Rep. Rene Relampagos witnessed the president delivering his annual report.

Aquino’s commitment was regarded a diamond gift to the Boholanos who coincidentally celebrated the 158th birth anniversary of their province on July 22 or a day to the SONA.

The governor thanked the president as the new airport costing over P7 billion is projected to cause economic miracle in this island-province of the country.

The ambitious project has a whooping national allocation, but its main fund for full-scale implementation must be from the foreign Official Development Assistance (ODA) thru the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Its concrete implementation is pegged to start next year until its completion before the president’s term ends in 2016, according to Relampagos, who is a dependable Chatto ally helping pursue Bohol’s sustainable development agenda and in whose district the airport is situated.

After the president’s SONA, Chatto and Relampagos attended a highly important meeting arranged by Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Sec. Mar Roxas.

Like their neighbour Panglaoanons, the Dauisanons expect more jobs, livelihood, income and other economic aspects that make them rise above life once the giant airport is fully done and operational.

Meanwhile, Dauisanons likewise thanked the governor for sustaining his support to the different projects, programs and concerns in the barangays even if he has to attend to the needs of the over 1,000 other barangays across the province.

By maternal blood, Chatto is himself a Dauisanon.
