3 mayors head coastal enforcement

The Coastal Law Enforcement Council (CLEC) elected its officers in the province's three districts who would man its operations for coastal and marine life protection.

For CLEC 1, Mayor Lloyd Peter Lopez of Loon and Vice-Mayor Fructuoso Redulla Jr. of Maribojoc were elected as chair and vice-chair, respectively; Mayor Roberto Cajes of Trinidad and Vice-Mayor Nestor Abad of CPG town for chair and vice-chair, respectively for CLEC 2; and for CLEC 3, Mayor Sergio Amora Jr. of Candijay and Vice-Mayor Paulino Tejano of Loay as chair and vice-chair, respectively.

CLEC is a project of the Bohol Environment Management Office (BEMO) instituted by the province to safeguard its marine resources from destructive fishing and promote environmental awareness and protection among those living in coastal areas.

Illegal fishing and several other threats to our marine life is a recurring problem which CLEC has long been trying to stop with the help of our local executives. And now that the new roster of officers has been elected into office, Gov. Edgar Chatto is quite positive that province-wide CLEC operations would become more comprehensive and effective.

It has been noted that Chatto has already gotten the support of all sectors, especially the military and the judiciary, in the implementation of CLEC programs in apprehending and putting away of criminals.

Chatto thanked the local executives for their "passion to support CLEC" despite the imaginary boundaries of our coastal communities and egged them on to "work together in harmony and in tandem with each other."

"I know that we are looking at the same picture in the same perspective," the governor said, "and that we are all dedicated and with the same cause," he added.

However, Chatto also urged CLEC members to look at the problem of our coastal and marine life preservation in a holistic way and consider the human side and livelihood component of this dilemma which could greatly help in formulating more effective rules and regulations that could help our local and national authorities.

"I have visions in my mind and I know everyone else has the same vision," Chatto said. (jlvEDCom)
