John Ruiz III, Bayan Muna-Bohol coordinator, thanked Boholanos for their electoral support for progressive party list groups and senatorial candidates Satur Ocampo and Liza Masa who ran under the Nacionalista Party.
Proclaimed winners by Comelec recently were the following activist party list groups: Gabriela (two representatives), Bayan Muna (two) and Anakpawis, Kabataan and ACT Teachers with one representative in Congress each.
Bohol gave these groups the following mandate: Bayan Muna (11,613) ranked No. 10, Gabriela (11,353) ranked No. 12, ACT Teachers (9,660) ranked No 15, Anakpawis (6,333) ranked No. 16 and Kabataan (6,133) ranked No. 17. Liza Masa got 45,605 votes while Satur Ocampo garnered 39,856 votes.
John Ruiz in his failed bid to be council man of Trinidad town was still thankful for the 2,268 voters who "believed in my platform and principled politics for change", indicating that there is a considerable segment of the voting populace who do not believe in "traditional politics and their ways."
The Makabayan Coalition in Bohol considered the results of the Bohol voter support as a "victory" since this was achieved in the midst of "political harassment, intimidation and violence and acts preventing the group from effectively campaigning."
