Bohol forum to bare RH issues to voters
« on: April 09, 2010, 03:10:31 PM »
Information on the correlation of population, health and environment (PHE) in its naked essence gets exposed at a forum to be held at the Governor’s Mansion Thursday.

The forum, billed as Puso, Puson, Pananampalataya at Pulitika gathers key resource persons to present reproductive health (RH) issues and how its multi-facets affect the Filipino society, says NGO representative and convenor Emilia Roslinda.

The forum brings to one place RH advocates (puso), politicians (Pulitika), church authorities people and common people including those who profess the faith and those who swear in good conscience, but are about to make crucial informed decisions.

It also becomes relevant at this time when we are choosing national and local candidates whom we could bank on in bringing voices to the larger legislative plenum especially in our beliefs in issues affecting us, Roslinda added.

The forum also hopes to enlighten people who have chosen to hide the issue in a closet and have remained mum about it.

The gathering also comes sniffing at the heels of vehement rejection from clergies and some non-government organizations on the government policy now slowly stirring talks among the masses.

This too as an international group calling themselves Catholics for Choice (C-F-C) recently offered their support and encouraged Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral on her condom distribution efforts.

Through their president Jon O’ Brien, CFC remarked that Cabral’s efforts will undoubtedly save lives as we confront the HIV and AIDS epidemic.

He added that Cabral’s stance on the effectiveness of condom and her willingness to debate the bishops is not only making news internationally, but is also highlighting the church’s inappropriate interference on matters of public policy.

O’ Brien describes Cabral’s willingness to remind people on the importance of condoms to protect their health and to save lives as a gesture of genuine concern. (PIA-Bohol)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Mike?

A Thursday forum on RH Bill to be held on exactly what Thursday?

15? 22? 29?

Time of event?

Were you able to get any of this information from Rey at PIA?

This sounds like a good show down to me as I know politicians who are pro RH bill but afraid to let their churches and voters now how they stand on this bill.

how interesting.  i hope it pushes through so people can make informed decisions.

i feel though that the phrase "church's inappropriate interference on matters of public policy" is rather prickly.  if it has to be a forum, then the catholic church's stand needs to be heard as well.  inputs from various sectors i suppose are welcome, so why regard inputs from the religious sector as inappropriate?  in the first place, matters of public policy are supposed to be guided by existing values and beliefs for which the church, if it's not taken as the proper guide, can at least help.
