GETAFE, Bohol- As part of its continuing commitment on mangrove tree planting, the Kanepackage (KP) Group of Companies is expanding its endeavour in the municipality of Getafe, a port town on the northern coast, 92 kilometers from Tagbilaran City.

Kanepackage, a Japanese packaging firm with offices in the country has already planted more than 400,000 mangroves in Olango Island since the launching of its KP-GREEN EARTH program last 2009 that commits to plant five million mangrove trees.

The KP-Green Earth program is in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) together with the host community.

Meanwhile, like the previous tree planting activities, top officials from the Kanepackage Group of Companies are expected to grace the event headed by its President Mr. Yoshikasu Kanesaka while representatives from Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, China and Philippines will also join the said event.

KPs first tree planting event in the province of Bohol will take place in Banacon Island, this November 26 which will start early at 7 in the morning to take advantage of the low tide.

Banacon Island has an extensive mangrove plantation with established scenic trails beneath overlapping and intertwining mature mangrove trees that are breathless to behold.

It is an eco-tourist destination with an approximate area of 425 hectares of Mangrove Forest established through community effort that started since 1957. The Banacon Island Mangrove is considered the biggest plantation in the country.

On the other hand, aside from the regular conduct of the mangrove tree planting, the company will also be providing a monthly honorarium to the forest guards for maintenance and sustainability of the project.
