When a similar scandal happened in Hongkong to Canada-born pop star Edison Cheng, it was mostly the police who handled the incident. Like Hongkong, we have enough laws to prosecute the parties involved, and the Philippine Medical Association has enough rules and sanctions in its book to make erring members walk the chalk.
Nganong makigsawsaw pa man gyud ang Senado ani?
In Edison Cheng's latest interview at CNN, he recounts how he has suffered enough from the public shaming and continuing exposure in the internet. Just google his name, and his entire artistic career has been completely eclipsed by this incident. It is an indiscretion that adults have committed. Let them face up to it and suffer the private consequences. And then just allow the laws on public morals and protection of privacy take their course.
I think politicians are just grabbing whatever opportunity there is to get media mileage as the election season begins.
